I got a Xbox Series S for my birthday. Keep or Sell? *update*
*update*

Thanks all, I am going to keep it, they got gamepass ultimate for $20 a month and since my steam library isnt very big, I can try some games, I see alot of racing and UFC games.

And since tomorrow is promised to nobody, it could be the last thing my parents give me, so I dont want to give that away,

Thanks again all!

=======================

Parents gave me a xbox series S with a gift receipt as a present.

They know I am a gamer, what they dont know is that I am a pc gamer and not had a console for 30 years.

I have a very high end gaming pc, and I dont know anything about consoles.

Here is my question Do I open this xbox and keep it(still in box atm) Or take it to Walmart later in the week when I do my grocery shopping?

From what I read, Microsoft makes Xbox, and everything they have, is on PC and on steam or uplay or somewhere.

So is there any reason to keep the console? Any benefit from both a gaming pc and a console or should I return it for the store credit and call it a day?

I have been googling and am not seeing any clear answers. Oh and I have a 4k OLED TV, I use my 1440p monitor for my TV, so I would use the console on the tv if I decided to keep it.

But I am not sure yet, and want some info from others so I can make the best educated choice possible.

Thanks

It's really up to you. Or you can keep it for sentimental purposes.
Sell it...

Unless you have children or nephews that are around? A bunch of drunk friends maybe for multiplayer games? Consoles are merely low-end babysitters for them to keep them off your high-end PC.

I know it's a present and they meant well, but if it's with the receipt... they clearly know you might wish to return it. Thank them for the thought and all, but just claim you don't really need it.

Just consider if you have a high-end TV with surround sound and the works, they can work great with consoles. Then it depends how many friends you have around. Consoles are better for multiple player gaming together, already using what you have got.

So this makes you what…35 to 50 years old? Why are your parents still buying you gaming stuff???
Id tell your parents thanks and explain that you already have pc setup. Maybe they can exchange for steam gift cards or pc stuff
I'd keep it, if only for the backwards compatible stuff you can't get on PC.

Games like Burnout Revenge, Ninja Gaiden Black (and the original version of Ninja Gaiden 2), Sonic Unleashed, Halo 5, and probably a lot more I can't think of right now has never been available officially on PC. I'd keep the SeS around for that honestly. And, hey, it was a gift. You aren't losing money with it so you may as well right?

I'm sorry your parents don't buy you anything
Keep it to watch Netflix or something on it, it was a gift, and if you ever get company over, it is better for split screen games than a PC is. The controller is the best thing about the Xbox, but since they charge for multiplayer, I wouldn't invest too much in games unless they are single player.

They might’ve if they were still alive. They died a few years ago when I was super young.

I half expected this to be a necrobumped topic, but it is surprisingly fresh.

Because they can? Because they know I had a rough year medically speaking and decided to do something nice? Maybe they just wanted to make me smile.

Either way I am very grateful.

Turn it into a developer console, then you can run retroarch on it.

No problem. I just hope I don't get banned for that. lol :/

I'm fairly confident those links are up to date, if not I would look further into it. I don't know if Microsoft disabled the developer feature or not.

I'm sure your parents would be happy that you kept it. You could use it for retro games, spare blu-ray player, streaming device. It still have so many usable features by today's standards. And last I checked You could run MAME on it also, ton's of awesome games just in that category alone. Take Care!

Why would you get banned, there's nothing inherently wrong with emulators, you can even download them directly from Steam.
