driving license again
I already talked about this before it’s one of the many hardships I’ve had in life but I wanna bring it up again and go a little deeper since I don’t really have people who listen

I tried learning how to drive for a whole year with no success I wasted so much money on classes and tests and dealing with the instructor was hell because I’ve had crippling social anxiety since I was a kid I couldn’t even pass the barrel test Here you have to go through different tests before the final road test and I couldn’t get past that no matter how many times I tried

People told me “just keep trying” but it’s not that simple When you fail at something you don’t go home smiling With every failure I just felt more angry and devastated I didn’t want to feel that again and and it brings me some dark thoughts

I know it sounds dumb but I even cried after failing the fourth time Hearing people I know passed made it worse I didn’t even make it to the road test and people keep asking me “did you get your license yet” or “how are you gonna live like this” It honestly makes me feel worse every time

This country is so a car dependent and the public transportation system is garbage so it makes the whole thing even more frustrating

And honestly another reason I feel bad about it even if it’s not the most important one is that I don’t think many girls would want to be with a guy who can’t drive I’ve seen a lot of women say that and it just adds to the pressure

I know this might sound like some teenager rant but I’m actually 20 I just feel like I don’t want to try anymore I spent the whole day in my room playing games just to avoid thinking about it Even if this coping mechanism isn’t perfect and won’t work forever it works for now

If you did read all of this thanks I really appreciate it

Learning to drive is best done with a very chill instructor.

One that doesn't stress you out and makes you feel just like riding a bike... it comes natural. Most of the time, it's just overthinking things.

The best suggestion I can give you is to stop overthinking things and just chill. Learn to enjoy it. If you got some screamer next to you freaking out all the time, that's seriously hard to do... but it's not actually on you.

Just get a better instructor, learn to breath and relax. It's not as big of a deal as you make it.

Also, who cares if you fail! Just learn from those failures, learn from the mistakes. Really nothing is failure... when you learn from it. Accept your failure and face it. Consider what to do next time to overcome it. Just never numb yourself to it.

You only really fail, when you give up trying. Till then failure is the faster learning experience, most humans deny.

You can always set up and practice the courses that you find difficult in an empty lot somewhere. Lots of people do that, and it can greatly improve your muscle memory and familiarity with the spatial aspects of a vehicle. Once you have built up some more confidence there, that will help alleviate anxiety and hopefully make the maneuvers less stressful.

It's not impossible to live without a car, though. In urban downtown areas especially, they can be more of a burden than a benefit, as there's often nowhere to put them and driving in cities sucks. You can get by in almost every city completely on foot, and those are the places where public transportation actually exists.

Even in suburban areas, some people establish a local 'base' and then bike almost everywhere, which is not the easiest thing to do but it's certainly much healthier than what the average person does.

There are also ridesharing groups and needs organizations that help arrange transportation for people without it, though the availability is not necessarily widespread and you would have to do some research.

The license test can be daunting, but I can say without a doubt it's within your abilities. If what you've tried so far has not worked, think about other potential approaches. Bashing your head against the wall by failing the same way will indeed only make you feel worse. Completely ignore any judgments from others about it; instead, focus on anything that you personally find constructive.

But even in the unlikely case that you never manage it - you will eventually need some other form of ID - but nothing is a lost cause without a car. You would just need to adapt your lifestyle and/or move to a more suitable locale.
What happens when you get on a bicycle and try to ride around town? Because driving is literally the same lol. Get a bike, become one of those angry bicycle people we see on youtube. This will build tons of false confidence but it will be enough to bs your way through the tests. Godspeed soldier. :VSnake:
Like any skill you need time, effort, patience, understanding and practice.

Your crippling social anxiety is something that speaks somewhat to me and you need to work on it. Only you know yourself.

If you are like i was you need to learn to relax the ambient around you, this includes chilling others that are clearly on tilt. As a natural introvert this wasn't something i was able to do until my later teens and considering how stressful the situation is, it can be even more difficult to actually do it, to nearly impossible without outsider intervention.

Crying is never dumb, it's how humans vent frustration, saddness, anxiety and rage.
It's actually our first tongue that all master to communicate with their parents and the one some forget that still has meaning even if you are a grown ass human.

Failing is part of the learning proccess it's always stressfull and there is no simple work around, just do it again, again and again.
Any actual skill demanded of people thousands of thousands of hours to master and technically we never actually do master. Since mastery is perfection and "to err is to be human".

Car dependency it's not the country it's majority of the world that's car dependant, one of the things i agree with the greens is we need more, better and wider variety of public transportation services that are actually sustainable and efficient.

As for the girl department that's a whole different thing, which most oftenly than not revolves around being confident, dependable and down to earth. We could say there is more to it, but that is the basic for both sides of the spectrum and you don't need a driving lincense to be confident, dependable and down to earth.

Since you are 20 you are just starting your adult phase take your time and grow at your pace.
Most i've met even at the age of 25~28 they were still learning to be adults and you will never de happy to understand that there is no such a thing as an adult just massive differences of experiences to which some mature and others remain true to their selves even if infantile.

A bicycle wouldn’t change anything and I can’t go anywhere with that thing in this country there are roads everywhere
You've got to work on this anxiety, if you don't it'll cause you problems throughout your life.

My advice:-

1. Get off of steam.
2. Get off of games/virtual world/Reddit etc.
3. Get into a hobby you enjoy and make pals.
4. Try again with driving once you feel better socially.

I cannot stress this enough though, get off of the net.

Unless you really need the license there is no reason to keep trying as it is expensive. Depends a lot on the instructor also, sometimes they not care at all how you drive

Drive without a license on private property until u feel ready

That isn't going to help learn how to navigate traffic etc.

He needs to get somewhat more confident within himself.

This is very good advice actually
Just find a half decent instructor- pay some money. Get your license. I have full drivers license and I never really went for a test or drove for like 5 years. I prefer to use taxi to get around

he has to be confident in handling a car first.
find some friends to drive his car when he sit beside you, this could be against regulation tho. I think driving like this will help nerve to get used to being behind wheels.

No he doesn't.

He needs to be comfortable in his own skin without this cloak of anxiety over him which seems to be crippling his ability to function or achieve.

Driving around an empty car park isn't going to fix the issue when he's sat next to an examiner on a test or when he's in live lanes of traffic.

He needs to address his own anxiety and social issues.

My advice is to build your own confidence up by picking up real world hobbies and interests, making friends and going on from there.
