Someone is probably confusing those red cables for Twizzlers.
And the past few months have been particularly disconnecty... I would only expect that only at the very beginnings of steam events.
Anyway, I'm sure its not the client code, but that their servers are overloaded. Would be nice to have 10Million online, but only 5.5M can get online at one time I guess.
Anyway, sometimes you can even see this on the steam support page graph...

I can see two extreme dips for yesterday and before, but nothing at this exact moment.
(Just had two disconnects...)

If it were maintenance it would be at the same time each day.
This seems to be something completely other...

Its getting ridiculous, Get right to end of a game then friends goes down taking game with it. An Explanation would be nice, happened all last night and now at peak time in UK????????

Steam in its maintenance state is still better than origin.

Same problems here. Community and TF2 item server keep going up and down.

Guessing their hardware/servers are pushing capacity or just running on outdated. Like most companies, they maybe holding off on upgrading until the bitter end. Hope it gets resolved though.. One of the reasons I liked steam in the past (aside from the deals) was the fact that it was hardly noticeable as it was always so stable.

It was maintenance:
We are currently performing some maintenance on networking equipment on the Steam backend. This is not expected to cause any downtime, but in the event of an unforeseen problem, we're working on it.

Nice of them to tell us on a anouncment instead they post
Not very good customer service
Felix 7 Nov, 2012 @ 2:06pm
Your post doesn't make sense.
They told us Steam was going down. Usually they post in advance, but because they didn't expect something to go wrong they posted later than usual.
Don't get your knickers in a twist over something so minor.
