Small, nice sounding speakers wanted
I have some really great speakers for my computer, but for night time they are too big/loud and have too much base as they echo through the wall and my neighbor can hear.

I have nice headphones, but they bug me in long gaming sessions.

So what i'm looking for is some thing small, preferably a sound bar that would fit under my monitor, or a small speaker with a dial that i can place on top of my normal speakers i use during the day.

I'm asking for some suggestions, so i can maybe make of list of some stuff to keep on the look out for, or what local stores might sell them so i can hear them in person.

any thoughts on what might be good? Low base, but a nice sound that is low volume is the key. Right now i just flip my head phones up on the desk, but i'd rather something a little better than that.

You could try using rubberized isolation feet or metal "HiFi Spikes" to reduce any coupling between the desk and the speakers, or use Equalizer APO or another EQ to turn down the bass. That way, you could still use the existing speakers.

I personally use IEMs for long sessions but only a few are good for competitive gaming.

That's a decent though, but it wouldn't work for these. They'd still push too much sound and you'd be cutting too much so they wouldn't sound right at all. They are klipsh bookshelf speakers with a 5.5 woofer and a Horn tweeter, Just too much sound, plus the ports in the rear. (i think the ports are more of the issue to be honest, but i'm not going to cover them) In the end the 5.5 reduced wouldn't sound right too, it's just to much sound. Like i can't use the stereo at night either, but TV is fine.

I want something small, maybe a 3.5 with a small tweeter, that has low volume, yet fairly full Sound that is light on lows. For instance, my TV on normal volume across the room doesn't bother him, so i can get something small, with a lighter sound and be fine. I just don't really know the new market.Last time i looked for anything was over 10 years.

My dad used to have a little speaker with a volume knob on it, was just a single and it sounded fairly good but who knows were it is at their house, but that is sort of what i envision. I also know there are some sound bars that kind of fit this, but i don't know that market at all.

The mixer does sound like a good idea though, It might really help dial it in so thanks for that.

i cant comment on sound bars but check out "Active monitor speakers", they are small and great quality. even cheap monitors sound better than regular speakers. I went with those because they sound good at low volume.

I'll recommend any of the Creative brand, I bought a set many years ago, still going strong and connected to my TV as I use a headset for gaming.

The set I use is the Gigaworks T40 Series II, they have a volume control, bass and treble buttons on the speaker so you can adjust the sound to your liking.

They are not a small pair, but smaller sets are sold by the same company.

The best money I've ever spent, they were not cheap at the time, but for sound quality and length of time I've had them, they are well worth the money. :steamhappy:
We have a white JBL one that gets used for various things but nicely fits beneath a monitor. No idea about the actual, I myself don't use it.

Creative, Logitech and JBL are what I look for when needing sound for gaming.

Thanks, i'll look into some of those.
I use the Creative Stage V2 soundbar, for my every day gaming and watching movies. There not going to pick up all the sounds required for some games (FPS) where you need precision but that's what I got my headset for but I still think they're pretty good. I got them for about 80 quid on sale a couple years ago. I do love my Creative speakers, been using them for the last 25 years.

I've like those Creative GigaWorks T40 II I've know they're pretty good but with my current setup a soundbar is a better fitting.

The main games i play are Adventure, Strategy, RPG, VN's and FMV's so no need for positional sound.

i actually had a creative 5.1, and still have the speakers though the amp died long ago. ( i also have the speakers from a klipsh 5.1 system too, that amp died too) I suppose i could find some kind of mini- amp/EQ, but i dunno, that would be 3 more things on my desk, i kinda want an all in one i think. Little speaker at night, big during the day, and headphones when i co-op or make vids.

I'm defiantly going to have to go to some stores and check some stuff out, but thanks for the info. It's something to keep in mind while i'm searching for stuff and checking prices/options.

If you're buying the speakers new, see if they come with any bundled software, this might include an EQ that you download and install for free, it will save a bit of space on your desk, and usually, it can be left running as a startup program once it has been installed and configured.
