Steam BROKE BattleBit Remastered
And they're not letting you create a thread in the BattleBit Remastered discussion board. So apparently I'll have to post it here.

20+ year software engineer here... So steam updated, broke the game, and the error that comes up is that the EasyAntiCheat is conflicting with windows defender. Suggestions are to add exceptions for the executables and directory folders. I added white list exceptions for every single file in the BattleBit Remastered directory as well as direct executables. IT IS NOT WINDOWS DEFENDER. STEAM is what broke the game, and I haven't been able to play it for over a month. They're also now refusing to refund me, when THEY BROKE THE GAME with an update.

Anyone else have any other fixes, or maybe a mod can elevate this? If you're going to break games and not refund them, I mean, you're just asking for litigation at that point. I'd rather just play the game I paid for. Your move. 20+ year software engineer. So tell me how to fix it..

It's an early access game so that's a risk you take if the devs abandon it.

A quick look at the steam charts shows people can still play it so you will need technical help as the forums seems to still let you post in previous posts or try other locations such as discord or reddit.

Also a quick looks shows some suggestions on how to fix it such as here:

Steam is a program and pushes the update as required by the developer who created the patch.

Secondly it was a Windows update that messed with the EAC driver. Read the link in the post above.

As for a refund the limits are: WITHIN 2 weeks of purchase AND with LESS than 2 hours playtime.

Both conditions MUST be met. (AND).

You are talking about a game where the devs are not releasing an update since December 2023, after they trolled the community with a famous update going to release in April 2024 save nothing, and soon they stopped to release info from it (except for a short teaser trailer released some months ago, still no ETA and that helped only to piss off more the community).

Maybe the issue is from devs and not steam?
Maybe you should try to contact them via their discord which I wouldn't be surprised if you will be ignored?

If you have been Steam user for at least a year you might have known that game updated are pushed by dev and not Steam
Last patch from that game is two years old.

Your problem is mostly related to EAC and Windows defender not going along each other, not because of Steam pushing a patch.
As its been said if the issue is between EAC and windows defender its not a steam issue. You can contact Epic Games which owns EAC and ask them to resolve it
