Are there any StoryBattles that become unplayable if I play too many FreeBattles? Can StoryBattles disappear for any reason?

Story time! (feel free to skip) I played this game for a while and was getting into it--sure, the learning curve is a bit annoying, but every problem seems to have a solution. For a game that was shoved in my face on the Steam store that I felt I had to buy, I'm rather disappointed that there's no recent patches or anything. This game looked like a promising tactics game but I guess I should have looked at the dev activity before I bought it. I fear games that are given up on, especially on Steam where it's a indie nightmare full of scam games....
