Sorry to break it to you, but the problem is related to the game itself and certainly not your operating system, without needing to check. The game is not optimized for multithreading and handles the workload poorly. There's nothing to be done, except perhaps lowering the graphics settings a bit to gain a few fps, but that's about it.

You're like me, the happy victim of the developer studio's lack of seriousness.

If you're curious, the forums are filled with requests from players experiencing the exact same problem, with no response from the publisher. The only suggestion is to make a video of your problem and post it on the site... But don't expect anything, this problem has been known for years.

I encountered this aswell, it starts lagging randomly and eventually gets me disconected, friend of mine got disconnected before me, once we got the match up again, it was my turn with the laggs. But only 1 of the 3 matches we have played so far. the others were fine.

I assumed it was my router as i have 2 diffrent network connection lanes, interesting enough it was better once i used the lane that my familly didnt use at the moment. No clue if that was random or if the game gets in trouble if multiple people use the same network.

Its only in online though. can play skirmish and campaign without issiue. it crashes on me when i leave it running in the background for too long though
