Civ 5 stuck on "Updating Executable"

Civ 5 does not open. When clicking start, it feebly attempts to open while "updating executable" before simply stopping and nothing happening. Some forums suggested changing these files off read-only, but when i try this they instantly turn back onto read-only again. I am administrator account of my computer, a windows 11, I do not know how to solve. Please help.

Hi all, I had the same issue and opened a ticket with 2k here: https://support.2k.com/hc/en-us/requests/13327484

My solution was to disable XBOX game bar via powershell
Get-AppxPackage *Microsoft.XboxGameOverlay* | Remove-AppxPackage

This was happening the other week, but was fixed. As of now, it's happening again; same thing as last time, hanging on "Updating Executable", and failing to load. Pain in the backside.

Same issue here. Cannot run game...frustrating!

Update: I completely wiped the game from my computer, rebooted the system, and then reinstalled a brand new, fresh copy of the game...no joy. The game still does not load or run. Every other game in my Steam Library works...this is the only problematic one.

FINAL Update (next day): I modified the launch path in the Steam Library properties to bypass the third party launcher and the game works fine once again. Obviously, there was a change made to this launcher that causes the game not to start.

Bf got it to work on his steam by going into your civ directory, direct x directory then run DXsetup.exe.
Then it will manually install direct x needed for the game after it finish, run in steam.
