Controversial Opinion: Battle for Greece is just a reskin
Honestly, it still has
1. Demo ships

2. Units that are functionally like trebuchets. Why did they even need to invent trebs?

3. No gunpowder? Big whoop. Does that make the late game more interesting though?

4. Transports in dark age are kind of... why would anyone have the economy to build a transport in dark age, unless it's an island hopping map and there's barely any berry bushes at start location... I dunno.
I get the historicism of archaic age transports though. Only making greek civs have them though would be unfair to persia.

5. Only 3 civs for a mod DLC? Boring.

6. Units are reskins. Knights are still knights, just with a different name. Archers are still archers. Spearmen are spearmen. No proper classical armies, with slingers and javelins and lancers? Chariots feel like a cheese unit that melees. Boring! They should feel like chariots. Become a land transport. Fast but slow turning, eg.
Doesn't feel like a classical age army, it feels like aoe2 medieval instead.

I'm ready for the debate

Wrong you are not.
But a mere reskin is exaggeration, we have some changes in naval units and unique techs.

Indeed, 90% of the mod is the core gameplay reskinned to be compatible with the classical period.
But that's the flavor, AoE2 gameplay in antiquity settings.
For multiplayer it means nothing, but for single player, that opens paths we can't go with AoE1.

And remember that Chronicles is kind of an official version of the Rome at War mod.
If that mod got ancient civs added over time, Chronicles will get too. We just need to wait.
That was never hidden, it was a reskin, and a new campaign from announcement
The AoM-esque mechanic of choosing A or B for UT's and getting locked out of the other is an interesting implement.
this is a milk-warm take lmao. pretty sure the fact that a lot of the units etc are reskins and not only feel but function exactly like their base aoeii counterparts is quite intentional. They just look different to make them seem more period-appropriate. There's even a handcannoner-equivalent if I'm not mistaken.

The units are not the new content. well except for the new unique units I suppose. The main content that you're paying for are the campaign missions. Think you just sort of missed the point of the expansion.

I feel like this OP is just someone who rarely touch AOE2. His take is not something controversial or something great as he want to be.

1, 2, and 6 is a bad take lmao. What type of gameplay do you want for classic civs? You want a bunch of medieval guys fighting in early 400BC? Literally what's wrong with reskin but keeping the core gameplay interesting?

3. Again, gunpowder at the time yet anyone in that region uses it.

4. What's wrong with transport at all?

5. And most of DLCs have two new civs (Dynasty of India has 3). I don't know if this number makes you bored, perhaps others traditional DLCs make you too.

No, you are not ready for the debate. You just slap a bunch of wood on a car and want a reaction.

It is a reskin with 89% positive reviews and a complete Water remaking, which I can only assume (and hope) is a prototype for the future of AoE2DE.

Also Transport in the Dark Ages is for Water maps, some of which do include island hoping in transition to Feudal, for resources on other landmasses, like Nile Delta, introduced in African Kingdoms.
The trailer literally says during the first 5 seconds "The gameplay you love from AoE 2 in an epic narrative"
