Jupiter Hell - ROADMAP!
Hello everyone! This will be a post with the current roadmap, and I'll be editing it often to keep it up to date! At the moment I'm posting a draft without any specific timelines, so if you're interested be sure to revisit this post from time to time!

Finished releases

Upcoming scheduled releases (tentative)
  • 1.9 - Q3 2025 - Terminus - special level variants, improvement pass on Callisto, extra class
  • 2.0 - Q2 2026 - Ascension - badges and achievements, more stuff for the veterans, new game difficulty, extra class

Roadmap
This is a draft of features in the pipeline as we need to adapt to the feedback and our manpower after Early Access. Note that this is definitely not a complete list, and other things will be implemented along the way!

Upcoming planned features
  • console ports
  • terminal support (and fake terminal mode)

Regular planned updates
  • more enemy types
  • more item variety
  • more environmental interaction
  • more challenges
  • performance improvements
  • UI improvements
  • more languages

Any plans for some additional RPG elements like NPC's to talk, deal or team up with, "quests", storytelling, stuff like that? Would really add up imo.

This isn't that kind of game. Think DOOM, not ADOM.

Will there be at some point long variant of campaing?

An endless mode and an arena mode have been confirmed in the trials section when that goes live.

"If only you could talk to the monsters"...

Is the codex I saw mentioned in another post a long term update or upcoming?

Could (playable without major issues) console mode get a spot in the roadmap? :)

Where's that patch guys? I've got a JH to stream. If it's going to be late, I can let the folks know but I'd sure hate to look stupid.

No pressure -- better late than getting an unplayable or seriously bugged update.

Yeah, if I know it's gonna be a few days, I can say "it was planned for today but they wanted to make ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sure it wouldn't brick." or something to that effect.

I saw in the roadmap that you plan to include short cutscenes... and it got me thinking if you ever considered a action camera like in the new X-com series, I dont mean them on every kill, but it could be cool feature on boss kills or players death.
P.S.: Great game! Keep on the good work!

We actually considered it, but there are several issues - 1) the procedural animation looks really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up close (much more than from above), 2) the models and textures are optimized towards the size that they are on screen, 3) there are no ceilings :P

2 questions about the render :

1) Isn't there a simple command line switch to start in OpenGL mode ?
Currently, if I launch the game without Steam, or via a simple right click on Steam, it just crashes.
I need to open Steam's window, open game library, look for JH, launch, and select "openGL" in a pop-up.

2) I see "full console support" and "fake console" mode on the roadmap.
Do those include the possibility of a 2D "DRL-like" render someday ?
2D looks wayyyyy cleaner, easier to read, and more comfortable to me than 3D. (& has better performances)
I'm not expecting it around 1.0, but I hope something will eventually be possible (maybe as a mod ?).

1) --gl swicth in parameters - that said, it only makes sense if you have a card that doesn't support Vulkan at all - make sure your drivers are up to date!

2) it might be possible, but even fake console is a cheap gimmick for us. We're definitely not investing time into creating a full 2d tileset and animation systems. On engine level there should be some tools for that, so maybe when modding is in.

Thanks for the quick answer.

1) I don't want to mess with my drivers. I got quite old stuff (Radeon 3870, I think), and already had big issues a few times when trying to use last "officially compatible" drivers on Gfx cards.
It works as is, I'm not gonna break it.
Glad to know there's a switch ! Consider telling about it in the readme :)

2) I'm not expecting the tiles as much as the functionality.
IMO, thats the kind of things which might be easier to let the community handle (♥ Derek Yu ♥).
I guess I'll have to wait some more years for that anyway. Not a big deal, as long as it comes some day.
