Recently shipped

  • Janky first alpha build released on Steam

Ongoing

  • [TOP PRIORITY] Optimization - Performance optimizations will be an ongoing thing during development. At certain points, we'll do more focused optimization passes to try and gain significant boosts across the board, and these will be labeled as their own tasks.

  • Art / Level Design improvements - Much of the 3D assets - and level design in general - will undergo improvements as we progress with development. Areas that look clearly unfinished will be the priority (This includes opening up more buildings for exploration which are currently closed/empty)

    We will be expanding our level design team after the release onto Early Access.

  • NPC Pathfinding improvements - Making NPC's take more realistic paths when wandering around the town is something we'll be aiming to continually work on throughout the development of the game.

  • Crash / Major bug fixing - Any crashes or show-stopping bugs will always be a priority as and when they come up - and they will ;)

Coming Next

  • Optimization push - The open-world and levels on Monday need tightening up to improve performance, especially in regards to the prison errand and some of the outdoor areas.

    We also will endeavor to iron out any hitching caused by level streaming in this time.

  • Improvements to Monday's main errands - The main errands for Monday will undergo a lot of work to make them more fun and appealing.

    The sewers will get a pass to improve the puzzles, add in scripted events and make the escape after all three tasks are done far more interesting.

    The prison errand will be updated with an extended introduction that trains the player to use the Taser Baton. Also, a much improved ended cinematic will be implemented where Mercs will come and storm the prison.
    There will also be improved combat and general gameplay updates.

  • Monday - 3 Optional Side Errands - Side missions or 'Optional Errands' will give The Dude a way to earn some more cash and gain powerups. These will be mini errands that the Dude will be assigned as he's exploring Edensin that will reward the player with cash and items.

    All three optional errands are quite different from one another and are fun little diversions. We are currently testing them and they'll come in a future update along with the item venders, so The Dude will have somewhere to spend his legitimately earned cash!

    We will either release these all in one go as an update or roll each one out as they are ready. If we go with the latter, we'll split this task into three separate ones.

  • Art Pass / Level design improvements to Monday's areas - Much of the level design work for these areas are unfinished or in a placeholder state, and we'll strive to improve the overall look and feel of these areas during these updates, and well as finishing and opening up various buildings.

    These updates will filter through on a regular basis that includes other things like bug fixes and new features.

  • Improved saving system - The checkpoint saving system will get some more attention to make sure it's tracking progress correctly and also saving move often.

    Full 'save states', allowing the player to save the game at any moment and have the game remember exactly what was going on at the time (placement of physics, NPCs and the like) will likely come in a future update.

  • Basic Police System - This update will add a wanted meter and police to arrest you for bad behavior. Should you accept being arrested, you will be transported to jail. This is pretty much the same system used in POSTAL 2.

    We will expand on this system with new more in-depth features in another update.

  • Item Vendors (NPC) - You'll be able to buy various weapons and powerups from NPC vendors across Edensin using your hard-earned, or stolen, cash!

  • Key rebinding - Full key rebinding for Mouse/Keyboard. This is currently only possible by editing a .ini file directly.

  • Audio Sliders - As it stands, only the master audio slider works, but in a future update, music, SFX and dialogue will all have their own slider for better control over the audio mix.

  • Designated suicide button - Sometimes, one just wants to reload a save and do it in style. Soon, you'll be able to regret nothing and go out in style... only to come back from the dead to do it all over again!

  • Vitamin X - A new powerup to POSTAL 4.

    As a method of balancing the melee weapons in POSTAL 4, edged melee weapons will now require a brief charge period to perform their maximum damage output. However, with the use of Vitamin X (which totally aren’t steroids!), the player's melee power and speed are temporarily boosted, forgoing the need for charging period. Additionally, the Quick Kick becomes supercharged, allowing you to do jumping ninja kicks on people to the ground.

  • Killer crocs in the Sewer level - In the pump room section of the sewers, there are supposed to be crocodiles that chase you down when you fall into the water. These broke just before release, and we will be fixing them up and adding them back.

  • Random assignment of NPC's / Population slider - We will add the ability to control how populated Edensin is (for performance) and also randomize their placements so they are not in the same area doing the same things each playthrough.

  • More NPC dialog variety - Much of the dialog in P4 is currently lifted right from P2, but we'll be implementing new and unique dialog during this update.

Short Term

  • World map - Tuesday's areas - The size of the world map will increase to include areas that unlock once Monday has been completed.

  • Tuesday - Main Errands - Tuesday's main errands will be added during this update.

  • Tuesday - Side Errands

  • Ability to pet the dog - .. and not only that, the Dude will be able to them give them belly rubs and tell them what a good boy/girl they are.

    We are sorry this vital feature was not ready for the launch onto Early Access.

  • Improvements to Cinematics - The current cinematics are placeholders, and we plan to improve the animations used, as well as bringing on a cinematography major to improve the camera work and the like.

  • Vending Machines - Vending machines will allow the player to purchase various powerups and weapons and will be dotted around Edensin. These will function much like the ones found in POSTAL 2: Paradise Lost.

  • Extra core weapons - In order to fill out the arsenal a bit, we'll be implementing more core weapons that will vary from the current ones. Expect more Melee weapons, pistols, assault rifles and shotguns with different attributes (such as firing rate) and animation sets.

    This task will be updated and split into separate tasks when we know what weapons we will be focusing on.

    There will also be more crazy and unique weapons that will be part of another task.

  • The ability to buy and change outfits - Missing the dude's iconic trench coat? Fear not! You'll be able to obtain it again and dress up in a number of ways after this update.

  • Weapon - Cat Grenade - The natural evolution from the cat silencer: Combine a Cat and Grenade and set it down for hilarious results!

    *No real cats were used in R&D for this upcoming weapon... yet.

  • Physics pass - The physics, as they stand, have not had much attention. For this update, we'll make sure they are more consistent, so if one type of object is a physics object (such as a chair) all chairs will be physics objects.

Mid Term

  • World map - Wednesday's Areas

  • World map - Thursday's Areas (final) - At this point, the entire game world will be implemented, although work to improve it overall will be ongoing.

  • New Unique Weapons - We have some ideas for crazy unique weapons, so you can expect a few more to appear over the course of development.

    We'll update this post with more information once we've decided on the final designs.

  • Subtitles - Starting with English for accessibility, we'll shortly follow it up with all the major languages.

  • Save States - Save states are when the player can save at any point they like, and the game will take a snapshot of what's going on and allow the player to pick right back off where they left off, with everything (including NPC activity at the time) remembered.

    This is actually quite a challenge. POSTAL 2 achieved this by saving out a copy of the physical game level, which is not an option for us due to the streaming nature of the game.

    We do however feel being able to save anywhere you like is important, so we will give this some attention in the coming months.

  • Improved controller support - This task may get more priority if the demand is there, but for now, we're assuming you guys are probably more likely to want to play with Mouse and Keyboard. If we're wrong about that, let us know on the Steam forums!

    Improvements will include things like better acceleration, being able to adjust sensitivity via the menu, and improvements to the auto-aim.

  • Mini-map - An optional mini that's permanently displayed on the player's hud, to make navigation Edenson easier at a glance.

  • More variations to NPC's look - This includes things such as more body types, greater variety of hair styles, clothing options

Long Term

  • Waypoint markers - We'll look into adding waypoint markers so players can highlight places of interest, and have an in-game path draw to the location highlighted.
