Honestly, I wanted to like this game, but they no longer update it. I felt like this game could have been great. I don't know what happened to the development to the game but my guess was they weren't fixing the main issue with the game and prioritizing the gamer who play the game and listening to them about what could be done differently. I still struggle to play single player. Before, it was because of the gaming laptop I was playing on but now I have a full set up. I may try it again just to see if anything is different, but I would not recommend anyone spending their hard earned money on this game. Not even worth the 20 bucks they are selling it for. Wait for a sale if you really want to play this game that bad.

An interesting historical period in the USA

On its face, the concept behind HEAT is *solid* and completely underserved in the genre. Unfortunately, the developers *appear* to have ceased development on the title.

As of the time of writing this review (Summer 2024) the last update appears to be approximately 3 years ago.

Systems wise, HEAT has a great deal of interesting loops - but most of the game unfortunately is very poorly executed.

The title has EAC as mandatory, no switches I've found (or cfg settings) will disable EAC for your private server, and unfortunately there seems to be some sort of RPC threshold being crossed during play that will likely end up with you being temp banned (approx 15 mins?) from your own server by EAC.

Outside of functional issues with running your own game server:

- Player SFX are excessively loud
- Impact SFX, foot steps, you name it. Its either too quiet, or far too loud.
- Animations and Player Models are extremely low quality
- First Time User Experience is near completely absent
- Player Base is miniscule for a game of its age
- Unlocks and the Tech Tree don't really seem to make much sense

I have not (unfortunately) been able to experience any player to player interactions, due to the extremely small player base.

Maybe this might be interesting in the single player approach? However I strongly advise against buying HEAT for more than a 4.99 sale.
