What bother's me though is why they decided to develop so much stuff after release without monetization. I would had rather spent 5-10 bucks for additionaly Game content and then get much more content then the way it was done.
its not just star renegades. same studio did the same thing with their previous big title, halcyon six - game was maybe 75~ done cooking and they dropped support, capping it off with a 'lightspeed edition' that addressed few if any of the major problems with the game
they're a studio in the business of producing tech demos to show off to investors, not the business of producing finished games
A big disappointment with a lot of these survival games, at least to me, is the absence of modability. Using Cities Skylines as an example, I have played that game for thousands of hours and probably will play it for thousands more since modding allows users to create nearly infinite custom content. I bought most of the paid DLC purely to show support for the company.
Games like Frostpunk get fully finished and haven't had their support dropped, yet for some reason they also feel as unfinished as Palworld. It could be that using the same buildings over and over and being limited to the game mechanics the developers intended wears out some of the playerbase, myself included.
I don't think this is a fair judgement. For both Halcyon 6 and Star Renegades, we continued to make free DLC content for about 1.5 years after the initial launch. Both games are considered complete and finished. The final DLC for Star Renegades is finishes the story in a very obvious manner.
If you look up Steamstats for our Star Renegades, you can see the esitmated revenue, now take 30% off of that as Steam tax, then divide the remaining by 50% as that goes our our publisher. The remaining was what we paid our team to continue working Star Renegades until long term sales died off.
Keeping a team of 23 people paid is no easy feat. We make maybe $15K-$20K a year with Star Renegades right now. That's barely 1/5 of one person's salary. The rest of the money we get from funding from investors and publishers and of course they're not going to pay for Star Renegades development, they want that money to be used for the projects they are funding, like Fera.
You're allowed to have your opinion of course, but I wanted to make sure you understood all the dynamics in play when it comes to running a game studio.

I appreciate the response about game dev and a little behind the scenes. More information is always helpful and I approve of what was said. I wish them well. Man it sucks how little money goes to them when they make the product and without them, there would be no money at all.
