Career mode is a separate 'score attack' mode where you have the whole map from the beginning plus the Argo, and 1200 days to get a high score; Flashpoints start spawning within the first few weeks, and the difficulty of all planets is set and won't increase. You can keep playing sandbox after the 1200 days.
Additionally the Raven (and the Cataphract with the EW suite built in), Hatchman, and to a much lesser degree Bullshark, won't see much action if you don't do their flashpoints early enough. In post campaign you will likely never see a Raven or Hatchman in any battle that isn't one of the flashpoints due to things being locked at high skulls.
