campaign to career?
If I finish the campaign, can I continue playing it as a career or do I have to start a career from scratch?

Yeah, after you finish the Campaign story, the whole map unlocks in sandbox mode and you can do Flashpoints. But it's still the Campaign map with the full increased difficulty.

Career mode is a separate 'score attack' mode where you have the whole map from the beginning plus the Argo, and 1200 days to get a high score; Flashpoints start spawning within the first few weeks, and the difficulty of all planets is set and won't increase. You can keep playing sandbox after the 1200 days.

You can keep playing after you finish the campaign, however, it won't be a Career game with the reset system difficulties and 1200 day score timer.

Also if you continue after Campaign your late mechs will make most Flashpoints Trivial in difficulty.
You can continue playing but you won't get a Career Score. Not that it matters.
The flashpoints are also intended to be played across a whole career, and not just once you have reached the endgame with nothing but LosTech and assaults. I mean one chain rewards you with one rarer mech chassis, and the choices are heavies or lighter.

Additionally the Raven (and the Cataphract with the EW suite built in), Hatchman, and to a much lesser degree Bullshark, won't see much action if you don't do their flashpoints early enough. In post campaign you will likely never see a Raven or Hatchman in any battle that isn't one of the flashpoints due to things being locked at high skulls.
