I have been in a bit of gaming slump. I get that way when I play a few games back to back that I didn't like. I threw this on and wasn't expecting much but was an excellent homage to old school run n' guns like contra. It's fluid in its controls, graphics look good and really play into the nostalgia I was hoping for with the soundtrack being something from the Mega Drive/Genesis era. The bosses were also interesting enough and challenging with enough attempts, without being far beyond difficult.

I'm not sure if it is telling on how old someone is, but those who have not recommended this game have cited things like how cheap the deaths are but a game like this reminds me of the old Mega Man games who were notorious for carefully and cleverly placed enemies. Where, if you ran like a bull at a gate, you are definitely going to die. You have to play levels over and over again until every enemy because muscle memory. This is all by design. If you grew up in the 90's, this was par for the course. A lot of games were like this. It has a few quality of life improvements to remind you it's more modern than a 90's game but everything else gets the dopamine receptors going for those who want a shot of nostalgia. Aside from the fact that I couldn't really binge on this game and I would play it for 30 mins to an hour each time, it's an excellent game and highly recommended. At the time of this review, it is $5.98 AUD (Australian dollars) which makes the decision to buy this game a no-brainer.
