FINAL FANTASY XII THE ZODIAC AGE

FINAL FANTASY XII THE ZODIAC AGE

Näytä tilastot:
Was SUPER hesitant at first... in a bit of a trance now :D
I've played FF6-16, and beaten all except 8 and 12.

After hearing such polarizing reviews about this game I HAD to snatch it for myself on the recent winter sale.

And at first... I was not down with the combat. I really like the world, the story felt mid, but the combat felt awkward.

10 hours in with some character development and world-building, it's starting to really pick up.

How do you guys feel about the unique combat the game has to offer?

You guys enjoying the game?

Please keep this spoiler free as I'm not too far in yet.

Thanks!

It's actually one of the most well received Final Fantasy titles. It's so good people who hate FF typically love it, too. That said, yes. I've loved the game since it came out. It's perfect.
I really like the combat as a whole.
of course i wished the game had more equipment for the elements, and i wish the world was even larger, but a really solid game.

Well there's always modding ;) SFF is just a click away.

But yeah, VERY solid combat in this game. It has surprising amounts of depth to it and lots of room to play with, while at the same time being accessible enough to not devolve into a massive grindfest even for the optional superbosses. They did a good job with this.
Glad U enjoy it. Mods can help u get many more hours out of it. I'm at 750 myself.
Epic, appreciate the insight!

Currently have my second squad as bow / ranged and it's FUN plucking lol.
While I'm not the biggest fan of how the character development and story pacing is implemented, I do love the openness of the gameplay and just exploring that epic, awesome world.
this was my first final fantasy, and while i may not really jive with the story much, the music, the world, the gameplay, combat, especially with the world that mods have to offer, it keeps me coming back. This is quite literally, my most played game of all time.

fake news
its the only final fantasy with combat i liked
For me, it's very simple:

- This game made turn-based combat cool and dynamic, which is a colossal task to accomplish.
- The animations, visuals, environments, and 3D models look better than some current-day games. This game was released in 2006! Look at how the hair and clothes move when you run or stop. Unbelievable standards of quality.
- Timeless UI. Still holds up.
- Narration and writing (as in text and dialogue writing) are the best out there. Read the entries for monsters and bosses in the bestiary, it's like reading a classic book. So well written. It's not just a translation job from Japanese, it's way more than that.
- No need to mention the music because it's on point and each track fits perfectly well with the environment.
- Talking to NPCs adds to the atmosphere. They blend in with their surroundings and feel alive.
- The only weak point is Vaan in the story and this has been said a million times before. He's an empty husk/placeholder representing the player. I wish the main character was Balthier instead. Another weak point is the lack of side quests aside from hunting marks.
@electricwizard Who said Vaan was the main character?? Have you ever read Moby ♥♥♥♥?? Ishmael is sure as hell not the main character. Balthier isn't either. Ashe more than certainly is. She impacts all the other party characters and they her. They all face loss but her loss was deeper and impacted the whole world more. The only way for all of them to succeed is if she takes back what is hers. None of the other characters are as important as she is.
Vaan is 100% the main character of the game as most of the game defaults to his perspective.

dont have to be the most important person in the room to be the main character of a story
The plot is really turning me off. It’s just kinda blah. Not too far in, I also got it on the Winter sale and just started playing. I hope it gets better in that department.

I was sketchy on the combat being so different than the other FF titles I’ve played (1-X-2) but now that I’ve opened up the license board a bit and gotten gambits, it’s becoming a lot more entertaining.

Put those two things together, and ATM I’m finding myself rushing through the plot progression to get to major fights. Also having a blast with Trial Mode even though I’m not able to get deep in it yet.
not much of a fan for a single player game to. play kinda like a mmo. but overall still a decent game. I still prefer playing a final fantasy game like in the past, turn based combat.
Vaan is the protagonist, he is not the main character. It was an interesting twist on the usual FF storytelling not have the protagonist be the main driving force of the story. First departure from the classic writing architecture since FF6.
