Game making me move outside my Guardian borders
Hi all.

I'm thinking this isn't intentional...

I'm playing it with Quest 2 but via Virtual Desktop (so the Steam version). I have a 2x2m Guardian (more like 4x2m) but the game already by the 3rd step wants me to move outside of my Guardian borders. Had I taken the step I would've landed among my curtains.

I'm thinking maybe the game doesn't recognise my borders as I'm connecting via Virtual Desktop. Maybe I should get a Link cable, or get the Quest-native version? Is this a Crossbuy or would I have to pay extra for the Quest-native version?

Anyone else out there going in via Virtual Desktop?

Hi!

Lots of people have played the game via Virtual Desktop.

It's a known issue that when playing the PC version of the game on a Quest 2 headset, a correct alignment of game and play area is not guaranteed and the user may have to manually reset the positioning.

I don't know why this happens - it doesn't happen with other headsets, nor with the native Quest 2 version of the game. I actually don't know if it's specific to Virtual Desktop or also happens with link cable or air link, as I've only played the PC version on Quest 2 myself via Virtual Desktop.

In any case, you can work around it by resetting the Quest 2's orientation by holding down the menu button on the right controller for a few seconds. I recommend doing this while in the main menu of the game. While doing it, you need to be standing in the center of your play area, and face in the direction of one of the edges of your play area. After this reset, try to see if you can stand on all middle 9 floor tiles without going through the guardian. It can be a bit fiddly and may require a few tries to get it right.

There is no cross-buy between Steam and Oculus stores - see this FAQ for more details:

I cannot fix it, as it relates to an interaction between how SteamVR works and how Meta Quest works that I have no control over. The workaround mentioned in my post above is how to resolve the issue.

I recommend getting the alignment right in the "menu area" with the Start Game trigger and ensure you can reach all the 3x3 center tiles on the ground before starting the game proper.

I had something similar with the PSVR2 headset the first time I launched the game. The "Start" and "New Game" fire pillars were all about 3 or 4 feet beyond the front border boundary, which was a couple of feet into my real-life fireplace bricks.

Restarting the game fixed this.

I don't have much experience using slam tracking. But when I was playing at a friend's quest 2, the vr workspace was able to rotate.

This occurred mainly when we swapped in the game (he took off the vr, and I put it on) and then the front in the game was e.g. towards the TV, and after the swap to the right of the TV. It was a different, kayak game.

I use a set with lanterns, there is no way for the vr area to rotate.
For this to happen, you need to recalibrate the VR headset.
