Aporia: Beyond The Valley

Aporia: Beyond The Valley

I would love to buy while on sale but no remapping yet so no sale.
Its been 2 months since we were told that keyboard remapping would be looked into as an option but I see it still hasn't been done. Even at half price this game isn't worth buying. If I can't play a game with the control options that I prefer then the game just aint worth buying,its that simple. I'm taking this game off my wish list as I can see this probably will never get done. Pity, it looks a good game.

Hi Patrick,

We're sorry you feel that way - But somethings (such as remapping, for example) comes down to resources - We're a small team, so while we want to do any specific feature, we're not always able to prioritize it.
Having said that, there exists plenty of 3rd party software, that will let you remap keys for games - You could look into those, if you want to. I have not used any myself (as I havn't had the need), so I cannot say how well they work, but I am sure there are plenty of communities that know.

Best,

Thanks for a speedy reply.

Can't you release a default actionmaps.xml with the default keybinds so people that aren't right handed or otherwise have difficulty using WASD can rebind keys? Just looking for the most basic of solutions, not an in-game UI.
There's no keys remapping but it's not really useful for this game.I play on an AZERTY keyboard (part of a laptop) and all the keys needed 99% of the time already work as if they were remapped. When I type on the 'Z, Q, S, D' keys they work as 'W, A, S, D' on a QWERTY keyboard. The 'E' and 'F' keys are at the same positions. Same for the 'CTRL' key (used to crouch). The only problematic key is the 'M' key, used to display the map. To display the map I need to type on ',', which is the location of 'm' on a 'QWERTY' keyboard.
If you think you would be comfortable with the key behavior I described above you should really give a go to this game. It is - in my opinion - one of the best "adventure/puzzle" game I ever played.

I'm guessing you're right handed, i.e. you use your right hand for mouse and your left hand for keyboard. This game doesn't accomodate left handed play in the slightest, i.e. left hand mouse, right hand keyboard. It doesn't even bind the arrow keys to movement. Arrow keys are hardly ideal, but it would help slightly.

After over 2 decades of developers providing custom keybind capability, either through game UI or direct editing of .ini files, I don't understand why a few devs are suddenly disregarding a sizeable portion of the player population (although left handed players are a minority of the overall population obviously). It's neither hard nor time consuming for devs to provide the editable text file if they don't want to provide in-game UI.

Hi guys!
We understand that left-handed people and people using different keyboards would like to rebind the controls, and it's on our to-do list.
But if you can't wait...

While we cannot support it officially, we're ok with providing the controls-file unencrypted for you to edit. It's called "defaultprofile.xml" and can be downloaded in it's unencrypted state for Aporia v1.1.0 here:
http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=66250600801569675967

The file is only meant for developers and is not formatted to be user friendly. Additionally I should add that basic controller movement and camera (look) controls are not exposed in this file.

Once you've made your desired edits, it needs to replace the "defaultconfig.xml" inside AporiaData/GameData.pak/Libs/Config (navigate the .pak file and drag&drop the new .xml through winrar or 7zip).

Again, this is not supported officially, and we'll most likely not have time or resources to help you setup the controls, or repair your install should you render the game unplayable.
Make edits at your own risk!

Happy Editting!

It works perfectly. Thank you! That's all I needed. :)

I have one right here (it still works) https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/app/573130/discussions/0/2132869574254447695/?ctp=3#c1742220359698387398

great, thx :-)
Why encrypt a config file used to remap controls in the first place? I'm going to reinstall so I can clock the full five minutes and leave a negative review.

Seriously, if you don't have the developer bandwidth to include a keymapping UI, fine, but encrypting the config file is going the extra mile to inconvenience players.

Its not encrypted or you wouldn't be able to do anything at all.

You can also see that its CryEngine default location "Game/Libs/Config/defaultProfile.xml" VS "GameData.pak/Libs/Config" https://docs.cryengine.com/display/SDKDOC4/Action+Maps

So you're partially if not fully barking up the wrong tree there. It might be possible? to have one in the user profile location but really its barely any time to open up a compressed file and insert it.

The dev didn't provide in-game remapping and you can bark up their tree for that but they're not the only ones. There's a game just released last week that has no remapping and plenty more games do not. No shortage of them.

Yeah, you're right. It's still a pet peeve of mine and a dev of the game did use the word "unencrypted", but you're right that it effectively can't be encrypted.

Still annoying. Still don't like it. Still get to vote with my review.
Now that I look at the actual file contents, there's a bunch of suspiciously unencrypted words in there. A better description of the posted file would have probably been "unobfuscated" or "unminified" or whatever process is keeping the file from being useful to those of us who would like to remap our keys.
If you use AutoHotKey -- which I definitely recommend, once you get the hang of it, you'll never again have to worry about whether a game supports rebinding keys -- I recommend adding the following line to all your scripts:

Pause::Suspend

This will make it so the Pause key toggles whether AutoHotKey remapping is active without having to go to the system tray and disable/re-enable it. So if you have a game where you need to type something you can easily go back and forth between the re-bound keys and a normal keyboard.

And, of course you can substitute any key you want for your toggle. So you could use

NumpadSub::Suspend
Del::Suspend
F1::Suspend

or whatever.
Seriously, you think providing difficult technical interventions to play this game like any other of my +500 games with the arrow keys and right ♥♥♥♥-ctrl is an "easy" solution ???
Incredible, we are not all geniusses, some of the rest of the world are uncomfortable with manually editing files.
I click on buttons to pay and download this game, I would like to click on simple buttons to pick my own custom keys.
This game looked so good but now it's sitting on my small pile of games that will not let me change the key mappings.
What a let down.
