Hacker invaded my world
Hello, I was trying to help some players with gargoyle in undead parish and I invaded by a hacker and I got hacked items and OP stuff that I couldn't drop. I assumed I would get my character softbanned and I deleted it, starting from 0 again.

How can I prevent this from happening again? Or do I have to just risk everytime I want to reverse hollowing and help other players.

Yeah those goons are all over the place right now as it turns out. I ran into them in Anor Londo lol.

I guess it's just a message to start backing up saves on a regular basis, as there's no anti-cheat mod for this game nowadays.
How to prevent such situations:
- Search for the invaders profile on your recent player's list and block all communication. He won't be able to invade you again. ( works in DSR and DS3, in ER as well)
- When you place your summon sign to play coop, you don't need to be in human form, only the host needs to reverse hollowing. But invaders can do such stuff to phantoms as well, and it's also possible to get a cheating host.
- When playing coop, always kill your boss first, so can nobody invade you in this area. Of course only if you don't plan to host there yourself or do some gravelording, in that case you would need your boss alive.
- Make a manual backup save every day ( copypaste it somewhere else) When something bad happens, you can delete your whole save and replace it with your backup.

I don't know if you get softbanned for this cheaters hacked items, in DS3 they changed this a year ago, so nobody gets banned now for force injected invalid items (in DS3 )
But IF you get banned, then it affects the whole save, not only one char. Anyway, it was a good idea to delete the char, when he was just in early game. For now I would suggest, prepare for similar situations in future and make regular backups. And don't worry too much what will maybe happen, or maybe not, we don't know.

Also: in case you get banned, and it's your first ban, you can send a ticked to Bandai Namco and request an unban, they will lift your ban then after checking your save. So..don't worry for now)

can u tell me how to check if i got banned?
If you are banned you likely will be in a different server and can not summon help for players unless if they changed it from early 2020.

It is VERY good idea to backup your saves after you exit your game.

I lost a 20 hour char in Dark souls 2.....and it infected all my newly created chars....until I deleted him....which fixed my game.

So lost all progress.

Albeit since then DS2 got the blue acolyte mode.

There are also hacks that kills your area boss which might seem helpful but you can miss out on intended boss fights.

So best to backup your saves and if you got hacked overwrite your save so you lost only a ltitle progress.

In DS1 and 3 you can also check recently played with steam list and ban any suspected hackers.
Banned players can not interact with you.

I had a backup from a while ago with all my characters except the "hacked" one. I replaced my save file with that one. Thank god I was only 3 hours in. I will backup my save file every time I close the game, that seems to be the best idea.

Also, if I want to help other players with a boss, do I have to first kill the boss in order to not get invaded? I heard that you can't invade someone in an area where they defeated the boss, like Undead Parish gargoyle's for example.

In order to get invaded you need:
- the area boss alive
- be in human form ( reverse hollowing)
When only one of this requirements is present, you can't get invaded.
And that's the reason many players do low level PvP at Undead Burg, because the Taurus Demon can be skipped and stay alive forever. Players can host there PvP, also can be a gravelord servant.
To help other players in coop you can play in hollow form !!! Must not be human.
how do you back up saves? just got the game on pc.
Do you guys even getting invaded/summoned?

The file's called DRAKS0005.sl2. Just copy it elsewhere for safe keeping and then copy it back if need be. I've got a folder with 100-odd folders inside in date order, each containing a different save.

I got banned once cuz I was trying out a VR mod and forgot to uninstall it when I took my game online. Next time I booted up DS, a window popped up in-game before the main menu showed up saying I was flagged for suspicious activity and either couldn't play online or had no way to summon/be summoned.

Sent a ticket to Bandai Namco and explained the situation, a day later they were like "okie dokie" and unbanned me. After that, I no longer had that warning window after booting up the game.

Welcome to PC gaming if you have to ask. But everybody has to start somewhere, I get that... Always search for an answer, help yourself first, don't wait for a fish to be handed to you, learn how to fish!
