How to report players in Dota 2
Some users on Dota 2 community discussions have misconceptions about how the report system works. Here is a guide on how to use the report feature and other relevant information about the report system.

How can I report someone?

Only the players who have been in the match with an offending player can report them.
No-one on the forums can report anyone for you, even if someone else searches the player profile in the Dota 2 client. This is done to prevent abuse.

After the match is finished, the page will appear with all 10 players from the game. Mouse over the offending player and click the red report button above, and then the report page will show up. On the report pop-up you can select following options:
  • Communication Abuse
  • Cheating or MMR Abuse
  • Disruptive Gameplay
  • Extra: Avoid player - experimental feature (For Dota+/BattlePass users, does not consume a report submission)

Note: The report button will disappear after some time after the match is finished, or if you leave the game prematurely.

After selecting the correct option, click Submit. If the reported player is a repeated offender they will get a penalty against their account. You will be notified if a player you have reported has been issued a penalty.

Notes:
•Report system is automated and will automatically issue punishments when a certain quota of incoming reports is reached on the account.
•Each Dota 2 player can issue 3 reports per week. Players with a high behaviour score (+-10,000 points) can use a minimum of 5 reports weekly.
•Your successful reports get refunded to you to use again (if the player you reported gets punished).
•If a party of 2 to 5 players report you, it will count as 1 report towards your punishment. This is done to prevent abuse.
•You cannot report other players in a Low Priority (LP) match.

How not to report

Please avoid doing the following:
  • Posting players match ID's and friend ID's on the Steam Discussions.
  • Asking other users to report players for you.
  • Reporting players on their Steam profiles for Dota2 offenses.

Report system is very functional and powerful if used correctly. Any reports outside the Dota 2 client do not lead to any kind of Dota 2 punishments.
Posting 'ban' and 'report requests' on this Dota 2 forums others may see negatively and you can end up reported for Naming and shaming.

The report system is ever evolving and adjusted. This thread serves as the most information in one place and we will try to update it as soon as any new information comes out.

Getting reported for carrying or trying to teach teammates how to play without feeding makes sense. Also, ingame UI tells "we've taken action against someone you reported" multiple times but you only get 1 report back, but having been informed they've done it 5-6 times. Logic.

The lower the MMR the more reports you get because people who cannot have it their way just become angry and feed+report for no reason. The amount should not matter, the reason should.

What's the deal with naming and shaming rules anyway? Seems like a common business practise nowadays.

Im not trying to come off as a enforcing rules, so I dont bring it up too much, just report threads in silence. But I advise anyone who didnt to read forum rules , in which one of things not allowed on all steam forums is naming and shaming.

I am not asking whether it's allowed I am asking why it's not allowed to name and shame players who very obviously deserve it. Just curious. The link Dominox3 posted doesn't answer that.

Because harassment of any sort is against rules as well. And singling out one person to publicly humiliate is unnecessary and contributes nothing to the whole situation of whatever the person did.
In another note, link Dominox3 posted explains to you in much greater detail why naming and shaming isnt allowed.

Naming and shaming doesn't actually relate to Dota, tends to be pretty toxic and often comes with requests to abuse the steam report function which is against the rules.

Ok honestly this doesnt help. Am i the only one who didnt find this helpful at all? How can you not understand this...What if you want to report players who play ranked after having played only 200 games and dont know anything (talking about really new players here)
Its clear why players keep posting the ID´s here, because the amount of ingame reports you get is just not enough. I get around 10 extra reports per week and even this is not enough..

This is hilarious. I have seen the most blatant rule breakers over the years be let off with perhaps 1 or 2 games of low priority at WORST. They usually just end up not being punished at all. Aside from dota 2 ingame reports, the profile report function for scammers, racists or toxic members of the community and any other kind of rule breakers almost never get punished. Not even a warning.
Sometimes it seems that steam is harsher with people that actually try to report, and almost never pursue the actual toxic members.
Before anyone says "thats just the internet...", I am aware that toxicity is correlated to anonymity etc, Steam simply just surpasses the norm. Riot, Blizzard, and many other gaming platforms manage to enforce their own rules, I dont see why steam is unable to.
