Not a strong recommendation by any means, but overall, i did quite enjoy my time playing through both campaigns

PROS

- excellent writing: amusing disputes between blood angels, ordo xenos and adeptus mechanics about how to proceed in the hulk. all very well voice acted especially the inquisitor (who is the narrator of all the genestealer missions too)
- decent variety in maps and objectives: plant bomb, protect the thingy, bring servo skull to x, fill rooms with flames, revive terminators and extractions usually coming with secondary objectives offering some extra currency
- atmosphere of being in a hulk is spot on, feels like being in "alien" music does a pretty good job of keeping it spooky with it becoming more intense once you start killing things. visual and sfx design is fantastic in general, you can flip between first person and isometric view for even more immersion or to plan out movements depending on what you want

CONS

- not that much in the ways of progression, it's fairly faithful to tabletop in your squad setup so you will unlock 1 class and a few extra weapons along the way, the only other significant upgrades are "modules" which are basically passives you can equip up to 2 of. there weren't many modules in the whole campaign maybe 8 or so? it really is a bit too undercooked of a system

- this is a big one, enemy ai once you get certain weapons. when using lightning claws or thunder hammer in defense mode the ai will just bundle up 6+ genestealers next to them and won't attack. i think they must be hard coded to only attack if they have melee advantage (they won't). it could also be made worse by pathing issues when ai is controlling larger groups, they don't seem to know how to spread out enough but rather get stuck behind each other

the above issue doesn't seem to come up using ranged weapons, ai genestealers will be much more likely to walk into overwatch (ranged) fire if they have decent numbers, it just seems they are overly cautious vs strong melee characters. when you play as the genestealers themselves you can overcome these units with various debuff cards genestealers have or just better pathing


CONCLUSION

- I do still recommend it, turn based games in general can often easily be broken in terms of player power, it just so happens in this game it's a bit too simplistic in how that is done. there's a lot to love about the game, the sound and visual design, the writing, the cool x-com style kill cam, it's a decent package overall

Pretty boring since it revolve around moving one to three tiles, putting overwatch on, repeat. The lore and the gameplay loop are extremelly loose, this game is basically a 1 to 1 re creation of the board game, which is not fun when played in a video game, one of the things that really kills this game is that your Blood Angel terminator, their Chapter's greatest infantry assets, each essentially serving as a walking tank, dies, the moment, a single genestealer claw hits him.
