If you Soul Match a +3 with another +3 (or higher) then you get a +4 or if you Soul Match a +10 with another +10 (or higher) then you get a +11, etc.
The maximum is +50 on Way of the Nioh, lower difficulties will have their own caps.
To exceed this cap you need to play the Abyss, where you will find gear with
(+ Value Inheritance). The Abyss, though, is really an Endgame affair.
On a side note, you can also raise the level and + Value of items by Defiling them in the Abyss, the level and + Value they receive will be dependent on the level that you exit the Abyss, you must exit after defeating the boss on any given level, you cannot leave using a Himorogi Branch or die, then you will not get your Defiled items.
Soul Matching is where people often realise that they should have been selling items rather than Offering them as it can get expensive but then it calms down when you get access to (+ Value Inheritance) items in the Abyss.
It's also worth keeping items that you find with Reset No. of Soul Matches. Always check the cost of Soul Matching an item, it's easy to blow many millions in one go if you are not careful, this is, I think, related to the amount of Levels that you have raised an item rather than its + Value. This is when you need items with Reset No. of Soul Matches.
You can Temper this onto items if you don't have any existing items with it.
Okay, thanks for the info. Seems a bit excessive unless you're going for the 1 shot all bosses. Doubt I'd bother going past +10 as I've not struggled too much
yeah, i guess you get far better armor from summoning dead players than you could crafting since the game is far from new. I imagine in the first few months after the game released you needed the blacksmith.
A couple of things, though. From what I've read, if a Revenants weapon/ amour piece has been upgraded by a player then you just get it how it was when it was first picked up, i.e. any Soul Matching/ Tempers would be cancelled out.
Some Revenants are built into the game, they are effectively NPC Revenants, you can find lists of them and what they can drop. Player Revenants must be on a strict time limit or filtered my player location (or something), otherwise the entire map would be covered in red graves, so how long the game has been out makes no difference.
From my own experience, I gave up on Revenants quite quickly, too many fragments, fairly dull fighting and I earned far more Glory playing as a Visitor, there was the odd one, where I knew they had a chance of dropping a particular piece of armour that I wanted. But each to their own.
Can you still find matches to be a vistor in anymore? I've tried a couple times to no avail. It is not like it matters as I have almost beaten every mission at least once, so I'm coming to the end of my play time before I either start up Nioh 2 or something else.
It is nice that I am actually having a lot of fun. I like the revanent system. I am playing just as enthusiastically as I did with Elden Ring.
Just got my armor to +7 and a couple of swords too.
I'm playing through Way of the Samurai at the moment with Dual Swords and as I've only played as far as the forth region it's obviously harder to find a match with this character than one which has played through to the end of Way of the Nioh, where all regions and difficulties are open to me.
I agree, the game really is fun.
Okay, I didn't know it broke it up like that. Well in the end it is fine. I've been able to struggle to the end llol
