Playing the game seriously for the first time, I found that - like the Hive, of which I expected this - all other empires eventually start to spam small scale attacks on all my border worlds, regardless of relations, etc. Vexing, as the player fleets all start with an attack threshold of 150% (which I turned down to 130% and should probably decrease even further, as every one of my invasions is a landslide) - if the AI empires also have this setting, theirs must be way below 100%. I've started this game several times before, but I've never played it all the way to the end before. But today I did. Difficulty 7, Birth of the Empire, tiny galaxy, young empire. I won just after turn 300. It ended up being a mad dash in the 290s to get to the last couple of transdimentional rifts, but that was mostly because I set most of my fleets to automation after I cleaned up the northern part of the map, and I wasn't expanding anywhere near as fast as I could have from around 250....
