I would have given this a neutral rating if I could. By no means is Wizard of Legend a bad game. The movement and controls feel good when playing, with it feeling like I have control over what I want to do. Bosses are difficult, but doable (though a fair bit of rng into them like most roguelikes). There is also a vast spellbook and artifact library to spice up runs a bit.

Now why am I giving this a negative review? I am giving one because I felt like there was not much progression in the game. I would do a run... do another run... do another run, and all I was unlocking was more spells and artifacts. However, you can only have a limited arsenal of spells and artifacts... so I never felt like I was making real progress in the game aside from just unlocking more stuff/different builds that I would not be using. If Wizard of Legend added a bit more roguelike progression (e.g. unlocking more artifact slots, more permanent boosts, etc.), I think I would have enjoyed the game a lot more. Sure I was getting better. Sure there were new spells and combat styles I could play with. But it lacked the type of progression I typically like in a roguelike. Also there are no i-frames for the dodge spell and shields don't actually really shield you (e.g. if you dodge past a knight with flame armor on, you'll still get burned). Although I can understand the "git gud" mentality here, I felt like there should been better thought put into the i-frames.

Overall, not a terrible game, but lacking in a few aspects in my view. If you are a fan of precise action roguelikes, maybe you can give this a try on discount. Otherwise, there are some better roguelikes out there.

this game is long and has challenging fun gameplay one of the best rougelike games i have ever played and undoubtedly worth the price more than most of the games at this price
