It's a good engine when you're just starting out. Good for learning fundamentals of game development, such as game design, game programming and similar. I have around 260 hours in the engine and it has helped me get started on my journey. I have since moved on to other engines, but Godot still has a special place in my heart.

That being said, I personally wouldn't recommend it if you intend to do game development more than more than just as a hobby. Employers wouldn't consider you if you have experience in ONLY Godot, and I wouldn't trust it to become the next big thing - hence why you shouldn't believe being an "early adopter" will pay off (and being one wouldn't give you a big advantage anyways). Again, this shouldn't matter to you if you intend to be just a hobbyist.

That being said (once again), there have, of course, been great and popular games to come out of the Godot engine (Buckshot Roulette, Brotato and others), but overall, if you intend on getting employed in the industry instead of trying to make the next big Godot game, other engines are recommended.

TL;DR: Good for learning fundamentals and getting started, good for some hobbyists, bad if you intend on getting employed in the industry.
