Is 100% meteor protection possible?
I've got my meteor protection up to 94%, by building two Anti-Metoer Lazers, three large telescopes and four Telescope Control Consoles.

But is there any point in doing any more?

Is it even possible to get to 100% protection?

And how can you actually impress upon your engineers that it just isn't acceptable for them all to wander off and leave the Telescope Control Consoles at the same time?

I've got the control room on priority status but they still do it, and the protections drops to 64% everytime they do.

Have a nice day!

you can get to 99% with 5 telescopes, but thats max.

Hmm! Well I've managed to push it up to 97% by adding another large telescope and another Telescope Control Console. Five consoles seems to be the magic number as far as manpower is concerned and I have baely noticed any occassion when someone hasn't been on duty.

Somehow I've managed to increase meteor protection to 100% (when everyone is on duty and using the consoles). I have 2 x Lazers 5 x Satelites and 6 x Satelite consoles, perhaos the extra console makes the difference or something changed in the patch.
Regardless of your coverage, it doesn't mean you'll be 100% protected from meteors. Engineers need sleep, usually when you need them most.
You can get 100% the game uses the law of diminishing returns but it takes ALOT of engineers, telescopes, and patience to get 100% for the extra 6% between 94 and 100 it's really not worth it especially considering that all meteors have random RNG trajectories (they're not aiming for your base specifically) and the wierd way the game seems to round all values up that 100% you may see on your UI is not actually 100% if I remember correctly.

yes...i believe it "MAY" be possible.
i have 6 telescopes and 6 consoles.
i DO have 100% coverage from time to time.
im thinking of trying a dozen telescopes and consoles to see if i can get permanent 100% coverage.

The problem seems to be that you can't implement any sort of rota system, so that operators get relieved to sleep and eat. Instead thay all seem to decide to go off-duty at the same time leaving their consoles unsupervised.

im hoping with 12 scopes that at least half of them will always be manned providing 100% coverage.

I think it probably has more to do with the number of consoles and engineers you have. Simply increasing the number of telescopes doesn't seem to make much difference in itself.

In fact, I did experiment to see if I could increase the percentile protection of my base just by building telescopes, as I thought they might have an inherent protection value. But it seems that two or three telescopes are no more effective than one unless they are manned and being monitored.

+1. It gets to a point where it's a lot less trouble & expense to just deal with the rare metor hit you get than try for 100% protection...

agree completely, but with 530 colonists ang growing, there really isnt much else to build to put all those engineers to work. so i figure....why not?

Building more telescopes or more consoles does nothing, what does something is building telescopes AND consoles. Because only an active ("piloted") telescope grants hazard detection. 1 console pilots 1 telescope.

Mathematically you cannot achieve true 100% detection chance without rounding numbers.
Detection probability= 1 - (0.4)^(#big telescopes-active) * (0.6)^(#small telescopes-active)

With 5 active big telescopes you have 98.976% detection chance.
With 6 you have 99.5904%.
With 7 you have 99.83616%.

This is the same for antennas.
Interception probability= 1 - (0.5)^(#big antennas-active) * (0.75)^(#small antennas-active)

i have hit 100% with 6 scopes and 6 consoles. briefly...but still 100%
