Meteor Risk Low
When you first start a new game you see the following screen.

http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/392169906061820884/76D8FDA5CDD3FCF94D438BAF23BF5CA760C11C58/

And within that screen you will read:

Sandstorm Risk: High
Solar Flare Risk: Low
Meteor Risk: Low

My current game has about 65 people, been active for about 50+ days.
In that time I have had about 7 sand storms, 6 Solar Flares, and a meteor striking the ground nearby almost every 3 seconds..

The base was hit 6 times with meteors. 4 of those was when it was completely undefended and the last 2 times was while I had a control center. plus 3 large telescopes, driving 3 lasers for deffence.

And I kid you not. those lasers are constantly active. every 2 - 3 seconds they are shooting down a meteor.

So.... how is this ( Meteor Risk: Low ) ??
If the nearby area is being pummeled every 3 seconds by meteors, this is hardly low risk..

So in the 50 game days.

Sandstorms = 7
Solar Flares = 6
Meteor Strikes = 6 impacted while one falls every 3 seconds.

If the title screen sais Meteor Risk low.. then should one not fall only once or twice a day? not every 3 seconds...?

Turn it down guys... sheesh...

:)

those lasers are highly ineffective.

Meaning they tend to shoot rocks that wont come near your base.
But somehow miss (dont shoot at) the ones that do.

I've never been seriously hit, but at the worst my bar got hit and 5 people died lol.

Usually it hits connections though.. and that too can end up ugly now i have 150 people running around all the time.

4 telescopes and 2 lasers with.. i think its 84% chance to take something out.
Good enough for me, i can handle any loss now.

4 large telescopes gives 97% chance of disaster prediction, which includes sandstorms and solar flares, as well as meteors (and lasers will shoot down any predicted meteor thats in range). But then, they still only work when people are manning the control stations

In my latest game, I had the cantina hit twice, two days in a row, during the first week of settlement. Killed about a dozen people total.

The main point is.. if the map sais Meteor risk low.. then why does a meteor fall every 3 seconds?

because that IS low. While yes, lots of meteors are falling, you yourself stated that the base actually only takes a hit every 7-10 days (without defenses), and they usually don't actually do much real damage if you built your base right (it costs nothing to repair meteor damage as far as I can tell)....it's only on the extremely unlucky shot to a critical power link or crowded dorm at night that actually does any real damage, and I've only seen that happen once to one of my bases and it was after I already had over 100 people anyway so it didn't hurt that bad. Try the moonbase (3rd planet)...it has meteor risk high.

I have to say that the meteor strikes in this game are so unrealistic as to take away from my enjoyment of the game. NEVER would ANY sane organization attempt to colonize a planet/moon where meteor strikes were hitting in and around your base two to three times a minute (this on LOW setting). Is there a mod to reduce this to a more reasonable amount? I don't mind that they needed a way to inject some drama/danger but this is just plain too much. On the beginner planet my base has been struck by random meteors 5 times in the first three days killing seven colonists in all. I haven't even gotten close to being able to build defenses yet. WAY too much for a beginner planet.

You can make your own challenge. How to do it see a guide from the devs: https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=677895200

Or you search in the steam workshop, maybe the mod "Desert Planet" or "Big Base" is something for you.
