GMS2 Beta Bugs & Feedback Thread
*** Backing up your scores and unlocks if Steam Cloud is off/etc ***

Step 1: from Windows start menu type 'run'
Step 2: in the Run window, enter "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Zenohell"
Step 3: copy score.znh and unlock.znh to area of your choosing.

*** How to opt in to the beta ***

Step 1: open the steam app, open the Zenohell page, and click the settings icon.
Step 2: in the dropdown menu, click ‘Properties’.
Step 3: click on the ‘betas’ tab and use the code “yesimadebackups”, which will reveal the beta version in the menu above.
Step 4: if the download for the game doesn't start automatically, verify game integrity.
In Steam, click on Zenohell from Library Menu > Settings

*** Currently implemented changes ***

- migrated to GMS2 (specifically GameMaker Runtime 2024.4)
- visual tweak to show player using focus button
- normalised player inputs and removed jank code, bringing code in line with Zenodeath
- focus button now also fires weapon, removing need to hold two buttons to fire while dodging or using alternate weapons
- removed flash from one bullet type
- removed sprite rotation from circular bullet types, reducing glimmer effects
- fixed color reset on (all?) boss corpses after getting maximum overkill bonus
- added bullet blink for creation of enemy bullets
- added silhouette warning for bosses that spawn collidable bosses (stage 2 & 7)
- overhauled shadow rendering
- fixed some jank with medals offscreen
- fixed visual bug with enemy intended to have spinning disc parts
- new "ZEN" gamemode to flex internal code changes
- updated gamemode menu to have better description of the modes
- restored 7th ship from cut proof-of-concept content

*** Reported/Known Issues ***

- Bosses with multiple phases getting stuck in red colour (hopefully fixed)
- Some boss death objects still not staying red when they fade to it (hopefully fixed)
- New ship needs ending text and unlock requirements, TBA

*** Requested Features Being Considered ***

- Tutorial?
- Leaderboards?
- Steam Deck/Linux build?

I tried to put sound effect completely off and it dont work, Its still sounds going.

Thanks for posting! Few questions:

- definitely sure you're running the new beta and not the standard build? misc options menu will list a v2.0 with an August/September 2024 date if so

- any specific places where and when you were hearing the sounds? ship chosen, stage?

I'll do some more testing again and push another update in a few hours, but I was sure I'd already tested and fixed this one.

Just tried the Beta today and the improvement in bullet visibility is really nice. The sound effect settings do work correctly for me now.

One issue though is that after the boss of level 1, the game does not transition into the level clear screen and just keeps scrolling in silence with nothing else happening. I've tried it a couple of times with different ships, I tried Arc and Kai modes and I can't get it to move past that point.

Cheers for trying out the build! I wasn't sure about some of the changes but it sounds like I'm going in the right direction so far.

RE the stage 1 bug, got this one already fixed in my personal branch but gotta update the Steam build later tonight, meant to get it out sooner but real life got in the way again. :)

Hi all, real life's been a pain and other projects have eaten up my time, but I haven't forgotten about this one :)

New build coming in the next day or so with a news post to follow. It'll probably be the last significant beta build before pushing onto mainline - of significance, the experimental gamemode (now named "Zen") will be available from gamemode selection and now has dynamic rank capping out at Arc mode difficulty.
