Of course you need actual practical skills in order to produce food and no game can truly on its own make you good at cooking.

That being said, I never have the ingredients at home. I mostly want to shortcut the whole process when I'm alone to get food in my belly so I can do other things. And I wouldn't chance on belly flopping a dish when I have guests.

So, what I would be looking for in a game is that the game has the workflow of actual meal prep and enough visual / audio / feedback clues that gets close the experience of cooking and produce a presentable result. So much so that if you get good at the game, you can start trying out in real life. And that you can screw up tens of times without wasting food or a big mess to clean up.

Not just drop a raw fish in the pan and it transforms into a delish looking perfectly singed dish.

I assume there are some food savvy people playing this game, so I would like to hear if there is any game on steam that have given you "hey, this feels like cooking" experience.
