Hello all D&D and action RPG fans!

Today we’re re-releasing the original Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone for modern PCs. This is a faithful version of the 2004 game with technical updates so it runs smoothly in 2025. Just to clarify, this is not a remaster; gameplay, balance, art, and story are unchanged. We’ve focused on compatibility and quality-of-life fixes.

Here is the changelog:

General

Fixed multiple slowdowns in game and during startup
Fixed broken in game clock
Framerate locked to 30 FPS as per game design
Fixed game losing control during movie playback
Game can now run standalone, configuration launcher is no longer needed to play the game

Graphics

3D and 2D properly scale to any aspect ratio
Optimized shadows performance
2D rendering now uses linear filtering
Added borderless and windowed display modes
Borderless is the default display mode

Input

Removed DirectInput controller support
Added full support for any XInput compatible controller
Controller triggers now work
Pad mapping changed to match PS2
Start pauses the game instead of right analog stick
Controller vibrations implemented
Hotplugging is supported

Sound

Implemented sound volume control
Implemented music volume control

Game

Sound & music volume can be adjusted in the pause menu
Vibrations can be toggled on or off in the pause menu
Movelist inputs will adjust to last input device used
New PC settings menu
Tutorial tips will automatically adjust inputs to last input device used

Given this isn't really a redo, just a replatform...WITHOUT ACHIEVEMENTS?! This is way too much. Let us know when its on deep sale, putting into line of real value. (notice the other remakes don't make any $$ until they add achievements AND reduce the price to appropriate)...

It's a hack and slash action game - similar to The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers - this one having a bit more to stuff you can unlock for your characters, as instead of just getting different attacks you can also get armor and weapon unlocks that show up on your characters. For such an old game it still looks neat, also having nice soundtrack and voice acting that even includes some well known names like Clancy Brown, Patrick Stewart and the late great Michael Clarke Duncan. Having played for over two hours as of writing this, it works well and I haven't encountered any issues - this Steam release has some quality of life improvements compared to the original release of the game sold at GOG while having 56 cents to its price, which is within reason (*if* the changes were bigger and included things like achievements then it could be more than that). I definitely recommend this to people who want a good little hack and slash adventure in a fantasy setting - our setting of course being the well known Forgotten Realms that has seen numerous adventures over the long years.

Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone was one of my all time favs on the PS2 and I was so happy as I saw the game got a re-release. I just bought it today and sadly I'm already near the end of the game, but yeah, it was always a short, but fantastic experience. If you loved the good old hack and slays from the PS2 like "The Two Towers" or "The Return of the King" (to mention the Lord of the Rings games), you will love Demon Stone (one of the devs of Demon Stone was a dev of The Two Towers before and you can really feel that). This game offers you some nice fights, a good progression and level system (but still a bit easy to get the best gear in a small amount of time), nice levels, a very solid story and a godlike soundtrack (Battle at Mithrill Hall lives rent free in my head since the PS2 release, hands down). Thanks to SNEG to give us a bit of support for modern PCs and gives us this re-release for a very fair price - I love this game! Please have in mind, that this game was originally released on PS2, so if you don't know the original, don't be to harsh when you judge it.

Please make Sword Coast Legends available on Steam again.

I love it when old games get re-released on Steam. Hopefully, Sword Coast Legends, from the creators of Dragon Age: Origins, will come back to Steam as well.
