Pathologic is bad, boring, it's not a game, avoid at all costs, read, this is why this "games" flop
I just spoiled myself the story, thank god I did it is not worth it.

Below is the explanation of why I say you to avoid this, the last two points spoil the story and trust me if you think this is going to have a super cool story it isn't but if you don't want to read that (YOU SHOULD so you don't waste your time) then fine but then you will go back expecting for some kind of reward and you will get nothing and then like all the fanatics you probably will start to do mental gymnastics on why the "game" is actually good and why you didn't waste your time in an attempt to cope with the time wasted.

So the game is just terrible (Pathologic HD) , I don't know about Pathologic 2 gameplay, even with the mod that allows you to walk faster (Pathologic Relapse) the game is a chore, is just not a game, its just a walking simulator, but I will make a list on why the gameplay is just bad:

  • Walking simulator is the essence of this thing
  • "Survival mechanics" are a joke, like drinking water making you less hungry but also TIRED? or how the hunger bar just is completely unrealistic and is just there to annoy the player
  • The trading is another joke, you gather water bottles from trash cans and refill them with water to trade them with some guys for bandages? where are this bottles comming from? where do this guys get their bandages? why can't they just do exactly what I do and fill their own water bottles? its so RIDICULOUS, like kids wanting needles? WTF is that? this whole trading "economy" is cringe and stupid.
  • The dialogue is atrocious and pretentius, it's litterally dunning kruger, its not smart, it's not "philosophic" it's just trying too hard and it becomes cringe.
  • Litterally the whole game is about the plague I honestly said to myself once: "The cherry on the top for this could be that the game is just about the damn plague and nothing else happens" and there you go at least 11 days of 12 are about the plague nothing else happens.
  • On the last day the only twist happens: "You are dolls and 2 kids are playing with you, the whole town is a doll house", "the "devs" materialize themselves in the world and like I said in the dialogue, make a pretentious scene in which they question the player for playing their "game" (LMAO they are self aware)"

Litterally not worth the time investment

This is why the games flopped, the gameplay is bad so is the story and the narrative, the few people that like this are completely out of touch with reality, no you aren't special and no you are not better for liking this, no, people not liking this aren't stupid or not smart, in fact they are actually really smart because they can tell this is just not worth it and go and invest their money and time in something better.

This reminds me of "modern art" where they tape a banana to a wall and call it art, Pathologic is the same, they call it a game but it isn't and specially less "art", is just pretentious crap.

You forgot to mention how if you don't finish a certain quest given to you during the day, you'll die at midnight and have to start over. (I think it happens twice in the game.)

The game play does suck in many ways, but the story and most importantly the characters don't. The ending is hit or miss but it gets explored the most when playing as changeling. you've already mentioned pretentiousness and trust me i see where you're coming from but the devs themselves said that games can be more than just fun. Yes i understand that sounds stupid but an example id give is dark souls. dark souls fans are the same players who've screamed and broken controllers over it, because although its annoying and unfair, its something to be conquered and endured. The aforementioned characters to me are the best part and without getting into it too much ill give an example: Peter Stamatin. Peter is the architect and creator of the polyhedron (the weird geometric building) when you scale it you'll notice its made of its own blueprints which at first glance even to me i assumed was very lazy. After a few days peter explains that you cannot experience a miracle, you can only experience the absence or aftermath of one. In Peter's case its the former. Taya Tycheek (a character you'll encounter late into the game as bachelor) is a 5 year old girl who runs the Termitary (a massive factory responsible for 90% of the towns economy) and previous to entering the polyhedron, she was just like any other kid. This tower possesses the power to turn a 5 year old girl into a sovereign of the towns main factory yet not only has Peter never gotten the slightest taste of this power/magic, he cant even enter it. Thus his life consists of downing Twyrine (a type of alcohol in the steppe) without the slightest caution in regard to his life. The polyhedron has become the best and worst thing in his life and hes stuck in a limbo between tears of joy and suicide. Of course i don't blame you if that means nothing but my main point in saying all this is that you're only required to interact with him 5-8 times but sleuthing around yields tons of knowledge that fills the gaps in between the characters and the social climate of the town. There's real value in the game to many people and even its biggest defenders will never claim the game play is good. I don't seek to change your opinion, only to have you consider that someones opinion is not baseless because its value isn't apparent to you. Even if you think all I'm writing is pretentious slop I implore you to consider that Pathologic's fans aren't fans for the sake of being abstract, there is a reason, as is the case for the stupid duct tape banana. I think that piece is stupid but i couldn't write someones opinion off without hearing them out first yknow? I'm interested in hearing from you if you're so inclined! Have a good one!

And??? What's the problem with that? Walking simulators are my favourite types of games. (Also as someone that plays a lot of walking simulators, I disagree that this is mostly a walking simulator, it's at most 30% a walking simulator)

This is why the games flopped, ...

It gets 90% discounts regularly and is under $2...
It did not flop, it is critically acclaimed in its country of origin and the kickstarter for Pathologic 2 far exceeded its goal.

What really irked me was how, after hours walking around, trying to get my bearings, the game gave me a game over at the end of the first day. The whole way through I was reading nonsense about astrology, divination, weird monsters that where nowhere to be seen, witch hunting, political power struggles, and whatever else these stoned devs conjured out of their asses. And it was sort of... interesting, I suppose, but the pace of the game, where you walk very slowly, but time passes very fast, and there's no explanation to anything, outside of guides and walkthroughs, ruins it, because I simply don't wanna repeat that whole process, very slowly at that, read all that BS (and let's be honest, reading this weird histrionic dialogue is what the game is all about, not the "gameplay" of moving at a snail's pace between houses), and then die due to something that had to be avoided early on to survive many hours later on a different day. It's quite obnoxious.

It reminded me of Dead Rising, but that one is actually a fun game with a great learning curve.

1. You did not play the game.
2. You spoiled yourself a story.
3. You are looking for excuses to hate the game.
4. You try to ruin experience for other people.
5. Pathetic display.

Pretty much everything about the game part of the game is indeed awful. I still slogged through it though because I found the rest of it intriguing. No way I'd ever do it again.

You are exceptionally insecure if this is how you respond to a stranger not liking a video game on the internet.

I think opinions are fine, if you don't like a game nothings going to make you get it. But for me it was the story and atmosphere I loved in pathologic.
