MEGATHREAD: Feature Requests
Survivors,

Staying alive sometimes requires innovation, creativity and daring.

This thread is for ideas. Moments of genius and golden idea gems that your brain hole conjures up whilst you're playing Shelered. Whether it's instantly shareable family journals (thanks Turgar!) or customisable collars for Hammo - this is the place to store your epic ideas and bring them to the development team's attention.

If you spot an idea in this thread that you like - you should back it up. Quote the original post and offer your support. This will indicate to the dev team which ideas are popular!

Just don't spend all your time daydreaming, you've got a family to look after ;)

Something I'd like to see further down the line in development is maybe roaming trader caravans. Something that would pop up on the map in a specific spot, stay there for a while then move on to another spot. There could also be a chance it could be a roaming band of raiders. It would make it a risk to approach the caravan, but it could also get you those much needed cans of beans.

Something else I would like to see is varied prices on items. Say one trader comes to your shelter, his price on canned food is 10, then another trader comes and his price of the same item is lower or higher.

I'm loving the caravan trader idea! We will add that to our list :)

It is already possible to get different values on items at the moment. Sometimes you might get a good trade (your stuff is worth double) and other times you might get a bad trade (their stuff is worth double). If it is a neutral trade then both sides have normal trade values.

Some other ideas I just thought of.

Basic bags: They can be crafted at the basic workbench and allow the wearer to carry two or three more items.

Small Storage Box: Once again crafted at the basic workbench, it can increase the amount of Shelter storage space by five boxes.

I just personally think there should be basic variants of higher tier items. Less efficent but usefull nonetheless.

Also regarding the Roaming Trader Caravan/Raider Band idea, the icon on the map could be an old horse drawn cart wagon.

Bright blond hair could be cool, there's only really a light brunette

1) a way to craft the components itself, for example, crafting ropes from nylon

2) a use for the dog (hunt, scavenge, fight, catch rats?)

3) a pre apoc scenario, where you can head to the mall and based on your inv space and time, grab items which you choose(food, water, fuel, weapons, ammo, parts)

4)difficulty setting( easier: influences density of other buildings, slower break down of systems, cheaper crafting, slower decay of needs)

It may sound weird but something I'd like to see is this: In the main menu there should be the game's current version number so we know which version of the game we are on. Despite the patch notes in the forum I didn't see Steam update the game.

Yeah, we can add this. A good idea!

The update was about 2MB so if you blinked you probably missed it! :P

I like the idea of making rope from nylon. I'll look at putting that in!

We do have plans for the pets. They will be coming in a later update. The dog and cat do currently catch rats when you have them. The cat is better at it though.

Our original idea was to have a "grab what you can from the mall" stage before you enter the bunker at the beginning of a playthrough. When we made it and tested it out it wasn't that good. We may revisit the idea at some point in the future though.

All of the main systems in the shelter have multiple tier versions, some don't unlock until the first upgrade to the work bench is complete. The first bag unlocks at that workbench level :)

I would like a way like maybe some craftable or an item that cleans the water since in my playthrough i kept getting black rain (like 2-3 days of it) which got my water dirtiness level to a whooping 55% and me not knowing you could geet radiation poisoning from drinking it two of my survivors got it.

Maybe bottled water or something would allow for this that could be stored seperate from the main water tank. Although I think that would remove the purpose of black rain in the first place. Maybe the black rain probability just needs to be tweaked. Also I think upgrading your water filters decontamination level should filter water faster.

The decontamination upgrades will increase the speed at which the water filter filters out dirty water (even when it is already in your supply). It becomes a waiting/balancing game as to when you can drink the water again :P

Loving the game so far. Have you considered at a later date adding things like vices? Things that could serve as both positive and negative effects. Drugs, alcohol, smokes, etc.

Possibly a special or tier 4 item that causes it to rain (some machine with an antenna or something) and its a one use thing or on a cooldown, ive had many a runs ruined by getting unluck with rain and think this could help counter-act it
