I played this game as a child and now to have it in such an improved version is overwhelming.

The game that started it all! Chicken Invaders 1 (1999)!

Quick shout out to InterAction Studios for bringing back this 90s banger on Steam and remastering it in the spirit of the newer games. This remaster of Chicken Invaders 1 hits all the right notes for both nostalgia and challenge! It's like designed to teach you a specific skill, literally like clearing 10 stages that progressively get harder—and boy, it forces you to get good real quick. Each wave builds on the last, making every run feel like a true test of skill. Even though there are 3 meteor and 4 literally identical waves per stage, times ten.

One thing I loved is how generous the game is with keys. You'll have plenty to spend on cool customization options, and trust me, the added customization in this remaster makes a huge difference. It’s a pleasant surprise, considering it’s implemented in the very first game in the series. You can unlock weapons and satellites right from wave 1 (yeah, it sounds like cheating, but you’ll thank me later) if you don't want to end up with no satellites and only the basic red gun even in the remaster, if you just want that 90s mechanic but new gen feel.

Now, onto the difficulty. This game takes “tough” to a whole new level because you can only move left and right. It’s way harder than you’d expect, especially in those tight spots where you’re basically forced to lose a life. But hey, that invincibility tool that replaces the missile? Absolute game-changer. You’ll need it for sure.

And let’s talk achievements: this remaster has 20 achievements—the most in the series so far. Six of them are tied to difficulty settings, meaning you'll have to play the game at least six times to unlock everything. Yeah, it gets repetitive, but if you’re into mastering a game, you’ll love the challenge.

If you're taking on higher difficulties, my advice is to use the Heavy bomber spaceship and the pink frying gun (with no overheat, though it costs you 50% of your points but ehh). Trust me, you'll need all the firepower you can get. It makes a massive difference when the difficulty spikes, especially Superstar Hero.

Overall, Chicken Invaders 1 Remastered is challenging, generous with rewards, and surprisingly deep in customization. The difficulty might frustrate casual players, but if you're up for the grind, you'll find a lot to love here. Don’t forget to gear up from the start!

A very good remaster of the original that stays true to it in a lot of ways. The same 10 waves are repeated over and over, you have only one weapon, you can't move completely freely. It even has an option for endless waves like the original! It's Chicken Invaders 1 with the modern Chicken Invaders graphics and fluidity, which makes it good enough.
