They are slow low armoured lights with no jj or ecm and only poss a threat if you straight up ignore them, same as most mechs.
Havent ran into a single warthog issue in my games, maybe because I shoot them and dont just ignore them while shooting at the big spoopy atlas.
I don't get the complaints. These setups are glass cannons. They deal a lot of damage because the builds and mechs have nothing else going for them.
Your OP specifically mentions the Warthog as emblematic of the problems with AP Gauss - namely, that boating AP Gauss allows for light mechs to achieve overly high DPS.
Hence, my response - that there are only a few mechs that can boat AP Gauss in quantities that might become problematic, and in those cases the high damage is balanced out by poor survivability. Thus, no need for a HSL.
TLDR: AP Gauss are only problems when mechs can take a lot of them, and the only mechs that can take a lot of them already have large drawbacks that balance it.
