Is it an endangered species ie protected fish, or is it one that's protected (shielded) by tough scales? Both?

Unlike the previous games of the series, this one has been released in a state compatible only with Windows 10 and higher, so there is no fallback option. Do you think, the legacy engine could be simply matched onto it as a beta branch? If it only takes you a few minutes of work to do it, it would be great if you could spare that time. If it had to be rebuilt completely, I do of course understand, that it is not worth the effort....
