New player to IWDEE with questions on ranger/cleric
Basically a regular game playthru and was wondering if dual ranger/cleric is still viable for my cleric. Seems like people are saying not to use anymore but I'm just looking for clarification.

My party would be:

Human Cavalier
Human Fighter 9 / Druid
Elf Fighter/Thief
Half-Elf Bard
Human Ranger/Cleric (if still a good option, what level to stop in fighter)
Mage type of some sort (can be dual or multi or straight)

I plan on playing the hardcore game if I enjoy finishing regular game(die hard D&D fan so no issue there).

Any help would be appreciated

On everything other than HoF you are pretty safe to set up your party pretty much as you wish. I would recommend a fighter/cleric dual-class (at either level 7 or 9) rather than Ranger/cleric though, since you are taking a druid anyhow. The druid will give you all the spells you need from that school and a berserker/cleric is quite the powerhouse.

In addition I would recommend the following changes to the party.

Human cavalier swap to unkitted paladin or Undead hunter. They are more versatile and suitable for this particular game.

Fighter/druid swap to Shapeshifter. The druids are awesome in this game and since they level fast you get a lot of potent spells pretty early in the game. Werewolf form is decent for melee.

Elf fighter/thief is ok as is.

Bard is fun and allows for some rp and extra content. I would recommend going for a Skald, since the song is awesome.

Mage type. I would go for Sorcerer since spell-scrolls are hard to come by in this game, especially the good ones. A very powerful alternative is a fighter/mage dual-class. If so dual at 9 to get 5 points in a weapon of your choice. A fighter/mage is awesome as a tank as soon as you get stoneskin + prot. from normal weapons/prot. from normal missiles.
