Policy Change (1.0.0.1) - Slight rebalance in levels

Hey Workers,

HR is instituting a policy change which fixes typos displayed in savecodes, slightly rebalances the difficulty in levels 3 - 6, and more.

Please read below for more information on this change.

Policy Change

Fixed typo displayed in savecodes
Difficulty slightly rebalanced in level 3, 4, 5 and 6
“Bedroom” in the Wire Hub changed for clearer progression, now players need to acquire tea first before they can enter the north wing of the level
Fixed bug where players could still control their character during cutscenes if they triggered the cutscene with 0 energy
Mimics made a bit more noticeable visually

Save code not working (or I'm being an idiot)

Entering a save code on the continue game screen doesn't appear to be doing anything. I do wonder if I'm being an idiot and missing something. Policy change: REPOSE is out now on PC!

Welcome to your first day on the job! Corporate is coming to visit us soon and we need to clean up our work and follow the guidelines to a tee. We don’t want to be written up by anything. Go into the facility and pick up oxygen tanks that you find while you are in there. HR should give you the flashlight and axe you need to traverse through the facility.

Hey loyal laborers,

Thank you for joining our team at the [the company]. Here, we are a family. This handbook will help you with completing your job. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to HR.

The Oxygen Tanks

Your job is to collect oxygen tanks found around the world left behind in The Facility. These tanks are important to our survival and we can’t waste a single one. Once you find an oxygen tank, please return it to [the company].

Managing Your Energy

Every action you take will take energy. If you run out of energy, then you will fall asleep during the job. This is unacceptable. Anytime you fall asleep on the job, please submit yourself to HR. If this happens, you will wake up in the last bed you slept at. Sleeping at beds will regenerate your energy and set a new point to sleepwalk once you run out of energy.

Please note, the time you are asleep will be deducted from your pay.

There will be tea left around by someone or something. We strongly advise you to ignore this tea and report it to us if you do find it. We are investigating who keeps leaving these teas around. The energy bonus this tea gives you might seem tempting, but areas of the facility you wouldn't be able to access without this tea are strictly off-limits. [the company] is not responsible for any side effects that may be caused by handling or drinking this tea. If caught with the tea in your possession, you’ll be sent to HR for immediate termination.

Tools of your job

Here at [the company] we will give you all the tools you need to complete your job. Under no circumstances should you need to use your axe or your handgun– but also, please make sure to bring both the axe on every entrance into The Facility.

TLDR: The aesthetic is great but everything else is underbaked or bad. Its presented as a dungeoncrawler, but does not encourage exploration, combat, or much of anything besides going from point A to B so it can feed you some story.

The Good:
-Very cool graphics. If this game has anything going for it, its a strong sense of style.
-The sounds. Sound design matches the graphics really well; its a mix of 1-bit noises and deep synths. Very atmospheric.

The Bad:
This game is trying to be a tactic/survival/horror game all at once and I think it truly succeeds at none of them. Enemies die in one hit, and so do you. There is very little room for tactics or survival, leaving a very one dimensional gameplay experience. There is a energy system that depletes when you move through hallways and rooms, which is probably supposed to introduce an element of risk/reward in exploration expect for the fact that any alternate routes are usually featureless dead ends. The gameplay essentially boils down to memorizing a static floor layout and avoiding enemies to unlock door, then moving to the next area to do the same thing.

-Exploration doesnt exist- theres little to nothing "extra". Why would you make a dungeon crawler style game that only has one route that is correct?
-There isnt a reset button. Did you forget your energy refresh? Too bad.
- The save system is archaic, you dont have a save file but instead have to memorize codes for various points in the game.
-The story is incoherent. Its trying to tell it via cryptic dialogue and random notes, yet provides very little of either. The story cant be found in the environment or anywhere else either.

DO NOT GO INTO THIS GAME, THINKING IT'S A HORROR EXPLORATION/ DUNGEON CRAWLER.

I think the game does itself a disservice with how it presents itself. I went into it, thinking it's a very aesthetic horror dungeon crawler. In reality, it's more a maze puzzle game, where you have to finish it in X moves, in a liminal horror setting. It's incredibly short, like 2 hours with all endings. But I think if it tried to make it longer, it would have overstayed its welcome. The story starts off cryptic but it too doesn't overstays its welcome, as it quickly gives you the answers you'd look for by the end. The story itself is a nice and simple one. The puzzles in the game have this "more to it than you think" feel to it, and it was satisfying when those moments were realized and clicked.

Overall, I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't a more exploration game, but I still enjoyed it for what it's worth. So if you're looking for a nice clean puzzle experience, it is worth its cheap price point.

I don't think the game knows what its trying to be. It is incredibly repetitive and the payoff for all your trial and error just is not very satisfying.

The art direction is stellar and I really like the vibe they were going for, if only there was an actual fun game to back its amazing atmosphere.

Its not a very long game. I got the main and secret ending within two hours of playing. It really hurts that I can't recommend this game.

Windowed mode, and scale-multiplier options

Can you, please, implement option to run the game in windowed mode with 1-to-1 scaling multiplier (no res. multiplier applied at all) ? I prefer to run such retro games in windowed mode and apply my own set of CRT-like filters on top of them using Magpie Upscaler. Thanks! Great game btw....

Why the save code system?

I'm gonna be blunt here: Unless you have some really mind blowing puzzle involving the save codes system, just have a proper save system. I grew up on codes, I get the aim for nostalgia, but that's not a system I have fond memories of. I don't want to have to keep a gallery of screenshots to resume this game later....
