Steam version of Warrior Kings doesn' t run with Windows 7/8/10 for me... Even with compatibility XP SP2/3. hf BASH is telling the true. I bought the GOG' s version and everything works fine. Of course the game is full of bugs, but the terrible unit warping is gone. Now i can play this awesome game! :D

My pc is window 10 x64 professional. After installing Combined-Community-Codec-Pack-64bit-2015-10-18 and reboot pc, it works fine.No compatibility mode needed.

hey i just got this game on gog.com and it works fine. there is a lot of sales so you might wait and grab it for 1.99 dollars. The other option is to try out this codec.

Sorry for people who bought the game two times :steamsad: but I have found some methods to fix the unit teleportation bug:
  • limit the framerate at less than 60 FPS (50 is better) (with dxwnd, or http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Warrior_Kings#Unit_teleportation)
  • copy your savegame, open the copy in a text editor and look for the lines NEXT_UPDATE_TIME_STAMP, TIME_STAMP_OF_LAST_FULL_SERVER_UPDATE, CURRENT_TIME, PREVIOUS_TIME: set them to 0.0
  • use an unofficial patch that is currently in development (with more features planned!)

Technical cause (for people interested, ignore if you don't understand):
There are two factors which can lead to the unit teleportation: how fast the game runs, and how big CURRENT_TIME is (that you can see in the savegames). The unit warping seems to happen if the game runs at more than ~60 FPS and if CURRENT_TIME is greater than 16384.
In fact, with a big FPS and CURRENT_TIME, the delta time intervals between frames become very small and lose their precision, thus causing lots of odd things. (32-bits floating point numbers are used for timing, which is a bad idea.) Note that this also depends on the computer you use, how fast they are, ... WK is an old game, and the unit teleportation was less obvious with slower computers.
I also managed to fix the bug by making the Win32 API function GetTickCount return more precise time information than it normally returns.

I was still having this problem on certain missions where the music changes for certain events (Rescue Tomas/Recruit the Pagans) but managed to avoid the warping - although the music still wouldn't play - by speeding the game up. Press + on the numpad to do so. Note it only works while the game is played at fast speed, so learn to give commands while paused I guess.
