The Room is a pseudo-escape room point-and-click mystery game. Set in an abandoned manor, you receive an invitation from your friend, "AS," to assist in unraveling a mystery. Located in one of the manor's rooms is a layered safe that requires your expertise to unlock. The story focuses on the mystery of an element known as "null." The power of this element, its discovery, and the main details of the story are revealed through notes and messages locked behind the various layers of the safe.

The game's story is relatively light, with further narrative developments likely to take place in later games. The Room ends on a cliffhanger. The puzzles in this game aren't necessarily difficult, thanks to a non-punishing tip/hint mechanic that usually provides just enough information to help you carry on. The puzzles themselves are less logic-based and more about cleverly finding hidden switches, keys, or objects that allow you to progress.

There are hundreds of things to manipulate and many different ways to adjust them to solve puzzles. You can rotate objects, manipulate their position, and change parts and angles of the pieces within the objects. It's all quite engaging, making the puzzle-solving really interactive and immersive. There's also a "lens" mechanic that allows you to see hidden ink, creating an interesting dynamic where there are layers within layers of the puzzles.

The really intriguing aspect of The Room is that you're essentially solving one large puzzle that keeps evolving and changing as the safe opens. It's quite clever. Layer after layer opens to you as you continue to find hidden switches and open small locks. It's a fun little puzzle game, with the only downside being its short length of only 2-3 hours.

I would recommend this to fans of puzzle games, especially if you can grab it on sale.

This was a fairly novel escape room game. None of the puzzles really blew me away, but it's hard to complain much when the price point and length are both so low. I do wish the story was more interesting; it's mostly rather boring and cryptic. Overall though, this is a decent time killer for when you have a free afternoon.
