On the other hand. fences and gates don't need to be doubled up - even if they're 1 block tall, fences can't be jumped by mobs.
Treasure chests may not have any problem spawning in, you can check the reference (ESC screen while in a world, there's a "Reference" button in that list) and then look up the treasures you're getting to see their spawning conditions.
As a sidenote, you could (and probably should) just claim the spot - claimed areas automatically turn spawning off (though you could also re-enable it on the claim settings if you wish) - claiming is a good habit regardless, for one to avoid losing track of a spot, and possibly to protect it from any undesired damage (say, setting off an excavator or TNT by mistake, or other players making a mess if you're playing multiplayer).
