A masterpiece. Been trying to find the words to leave a review for some time, but it's honestly more feelings than words. I'll try to translate into words as best I can.

Wednesdays shoulders the immense weight of a heavy topic but ultimately achieves a message of hope and healing. Timothee's story is not everyone's story, but his story is very real. The gameplay alternates between placing amusement rides in a computer game called Orco Park that Timothee had played as a kid--each individual ride corresponds to a surfacing memory that Timothee had repressed--and the memories themselves which are presented as interactive scenes.

The approach to playing as the characters interacting with Timothee rather than as Timothee himself at first is in fact a remarkable depiction of what depersonalization is and what it feels like. On some level he knows that these memories are his, but they do not feel like his. So the player and Timothee are experiencing these probably from a similar perspective; the memories just as new to us as they are to him.

And, from the writing itself to how the dialogue is presented--and even how it sometimes behaves upon selection--is just very... human. It takes advantage of the medium as interactive fiction to show how we don't always say what we feel; how we mask to protect both ourselves and others. And also I must note how REAL all of these characters feel. We don't see anyone's full story, but they're all dealing with stuff, and many conversations imply previous conversations we can assume to have taken place outside of the given scenes. I find it really relevant for this type of writing to be used for this game because this is empathy--knowing that there is a lot more to the people you're interacting with. Even if you don't know the details behind them, you know there's more there than what you're seeing of them. Because real people are complex. With this in mind, Wednesdays also has an artistic choice with the square heads to omnisciently show us who among the cast has been exposed to sexual violence, but it does not reduce them to this. Because, there is more to them than just the square head. For some of them, they never talk about it within the scenes shown, and if they didn't have the square heads, you would have never known.

Everything in this game's execution builds up to that same message of hope. The conclusion is emotional and beautiful and artfully executed, but everything prior made that conclusion so powerful.

Wednesdays acts to both spread awareness to those who have not been exposed to the topic covered, as well as offer solidarity to those who have. And I cannot emphasize enough how this game is ultimately about healing--that it's never too late to heal.

Wednesdays propose via un médium vidéoludique et une écriture fine un sujet peu relayé. Via une narration authentique et sans jamais donner dans le "graphique", ce jeu nous invite à partager via des scènes de vie une expérience unique qui gagnerait à être connu.
En résumé le tout n'est pas d'en parler mais d'être écouté.

This game evoked a lot of different feelings from me, and for a game that I knew going in would be about underage and inappropriate sexual experiences, I'm glad that it was not gratuitous. I don’t think this game will be for everyone (I’ve read some of the other reviews, both here and on other reviews sites, and I know how sensitive some of these topics can be), but I think for the people that it will resonate with, the game does say some things that it really helps to hear.

Yes, I think the game resonated with me, and yes, I did cry towards the end of the game because it meant something to me to hear/read what the game was saying, and to see how I felt being shared by someone else even if it’s just a game. I know there are some online reviews about how the statements feel a little forced and ham-handed, but I think the game might not have been for them.

The scenes and topics present have plenty of content warnings, and you are able to pause at any point and skip any scene that makes you comfortable. The game will give you a summary, so you don’t have to feel like you missed anything. I know I really appreciated this because there was a scene that I really had to pause at because I was uncertain if I could continue on, but having read the summary provided on the pause screen, I could deliberate and decide if I could go through with seeing the rest of the scene. I did ultimately play through the rest of the scene, and it was not as bad as I’d feared.

I loved the two art styles. I liked how you could play out each scene differently via the different speech choices. And I loved how the whole game ended off – it was such a wonderful conclusion, allowing me to chuckle through my tears from the prior scene. Thank you to the devs for making this game, it meant a lot to me.
