Maybe it is only me, and i have not test the "mage" character, but i find the archer character too weak on the defense side : no defense (buckler icon) (except for a few reliques) and while she is supposed to be agile - so, to be based on dodge as protection -, dodge is so rare that it is exceptionel for her not to lose lot of HP in a fight.
