Got to the first save but my frames are suffering in the 2nd level

How do you save?

Once I pick up the mask, that image and info does not leave the screen. I was able to exit to main menu and reload save point, but the issue continues. When I reload the save, I am able to put the mask on and walk around with it on, but it is not in the inventory. Only when I pick up mask does it enter into inventory, but doing this cause the issue I described above.
