This game requires steam to run.
I'm running through steam and still getting this error. Not really sure how to fix it. Anyone know a quick fix?

I reformatted windows 10 completely and the game now works. If you're willing to go to that much trouble it's really the only way I've been able to get it working again.

You can always do the windows refresh, which is basically somewhat partial reformat as you aren't really whiping the whole hard drive.

A full reformat involves whiping the entire hard drive clean and putting Windows Back on it via whatever type of media you choose ie USB, DVD, Cloning.

Fixed it, you need to download visual c 2010 files. I installed both the x86 and x64 downloads from Microsoft and it works fine now.

yep.
installing: Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86) (https://www.microsoft.com/en-Us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=5555) fixed problem.

I fixed this in other games by copying steam.dll from the main steam folder to one of the game folders.
