Eschalon: Book 1

Eschalon: Book 1

How do I change the resolution of the game?
Which file do I need to open and edit in order to change the resolution of the game?

It should prompt you upon startup.

It only allows you to set it at windowed mode or 800x600 resolution. I am looking for a method to change the resolution to something larger.

Looking at eschalon.cfg it appears there is no option to increase the resolution, only full screen or windowed. Just glory in the majesty of 90s 800x600 res.

800x600 is really low with nowadays' high-res screens. My current screen is 3440x1440 - both an aspect ratio and resolution not seen back in the days. "Eschalon: Book 1" is really tiny in windowed mode, and, unexpectedly, when run full screen it is stretched on the Y, not X axis, so much that the text is not really readable and fields are twice as high as they are wide.

Alas, it would be great if there was a simple hack which just allows you to increase the windowed resolution by powers of 2.

I played this before on my old pc - with same 16:9 monitor at full screen without borders. Now for the life of me, I can't force it through Nvidia control panel.

I can't see the text and it hurts my eyes to play. I have 40 hrs in this game and I did enjoy it back a few years or so.

So why can't I force it to remove the bars when I could before?

I doubt it's a game update that broke it for you. ;-)

What I do to make the game playable at all (on my large screen) now is to start the game launcher, move the launcher to the upper left corner of my screen, change the entire desktop / screen resolution to 800x600, then start the game in full screen.

This way you can't switch between applications anymore, but that's bearable since most of the time I don't need to - either I play or I do other stuff. Not ideal, but workable.

I'm sad there isn't on option for pixels 2x or 4x, to make the windowed mode bigger, I can't play this game like that, I have two 4k screens and on 2560x1600 screen, it's unplayable in windowed mode and fullscreen would mess up everything, icons and windows flying everywhere...no thank you. Even the fantastic tool "borderless gaming" that sometimes can help with stuff like this, can't fix this....guess I just have to deinstall all three books :nosound:

the start up is small but once you play the game it expands and i have 1064x900 res i think.. something like that.

In Windows 10 your options are: use Nvidia Console (use per-app settings), run full screen, use Zoom desktop feature (easy and works fine)

In Ubuntu go to settings and change Zoom - work ok - or change resolution.

you probably have an LED screen so "change desktop resolution" should NOT be done it will not look right for any app or win10. use only NATIVE resolution - likely the default.

Zoom desktop worked perfectly. Didn't even know that was a thing. Thanks!

Maybe changing the color depth to 16-bit would give you the result you want.

i play with lossless scaling set to 1.8 scaling and its perfect, just set the game to windowed and apply lossless, it makes the game perctly work as a "windowed fullscreen"
