Trail in the Sky FC has already captured my heart with its charming characters and heartwarming slice-of-life moments. Even in just a few hours, I feel a deep connection to the characters and their journey of growth. The writing is simply beautiful, painting a vivid picture of this world and its inhabitants.

The story's gentle pace is like a warm embrace, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the characters' lives and appreciate their small victories and everyday interactions. It's a coming-of-age story that resonates deeply, as we witness the characters maturing and forging meaningful bonds.

The first town feels like a second home, with its friendly faces and simple pleasures. I could happily spend countless hours exploring its nooks and crannies, helping the townsfolk with their tasks, and simply enjoying the peaceful atmosphere.

The Trails series has been around for quite sometime and I've been wanting to dive into these games for the longest time. Upon finishing Trails in the Sky FC, I can this say this game is phenomenal and resonates deeply with me. The story is a beautiful legend about a group of young heroes journeying through a magi-tech fantasy world to become Bracers—guardians who help people without political ties. Each character is well-developed and relatable, with their backstories and motives revealed naturally rather than being immediately forced upon you.

Being an older JRPG, the game isn't a visual masterpiece, but the "semi-3D" character sprites, cut-in artwork, rare animated cutscenes, and common character sprites are all beautifully done. I espeically love the "gemstone" pupils that the character sprites possess that add a lot of charm.

I initially played this game for the story and didn't expect much from the gameplay. However, the combat and exploration are surprisingly deep and enjoyable. Learning orbal arts (magic) and using orbments to unlock high-tier arts is very satisfying. The out-of-combat mechanics like cooking, gearing up, and collecting are well-paced throughout the game's progression. The turn-based combat has a unique, predictable flow that's intuitive to manipulate to your advantage if you prepare adequately.

The English voiceovers are well-done, except perhaps for Tita. I've grown fond of each character's voice and look forward to hearing them in combat. The music is delightful, with memorable tunes from various locations and events that will have you humming along. The harmonica tune in certain scenes is particularly moving. There is a way to mod the Japanese voice overs though I played without them since I don't mind reading.

The game doesn't hold your hand but provides the tools needed to survive in combat. I only experienced a few game overs in my first playthrough during boss battles. I can't speak for NG+ gameplay since I haven't touched it yet.

A bit of farming in each new field zone is enough to avoid excessive grinding. Gathering money, sepith (for upgrading magic), and monster drops for cooking should suffice. I've never needed to repeatedly level up after a game over; any failure was due to poor combat decisions.

The main appeal of this game is its beautiful world. The primary story is compelling, with some expected tropes and genuine surprises. The side quests and content are nearly endless, with every NPC having their own personal story that progresses alongside yours. The world feels alive as NPCs react to the events centered around your protagonists.

This game is a masterpiece and a labor of love, this game is essentially a 40 hour prologue. As much as I personally sing this game's praises I know that having a slow burn of a story is not a positive for everyone but for me it enhances the experience especially during the peaks of this story, and the ending which I found very touching.
