Trail in the Sky FC has already captured my heart with its charming characters and heartwarming slice-of-life moments. Even in just a few hours, I feel a deep connection to the characters and their journey of growth. The writing is simply beautiful, painting a vivid picture of this world and its inhabitants.

The story's gentle pace is like a warm embrace, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the characters' lives and appreciate their small victories and everyday interactions. It's a coming-of-age story that resonates deeply, as we witness the characters maturing and forging meaningful bonds.

The first town feels like a second home, with its friendly faces and simple pleasures. I could happily spend countless hours exploring its nooks and crannies, helping the townsfolk with their tasks, and simply enjoying the peaceful atmosphere.

The Trails series has been around for quite sometime and I've been wanting to dive into these games for the longest time. Upon finishing Trails in the Sky FC, I can this say this game is phenomenal and resonates deeply with me. The story is a beautiful legend about a group of young heroes journeying through a magi-tech fantasy world to become Bracers—guardians who help people without political ties. Each character is well-developed and relatable, with their backstories and motives revealed naturally rather than being immediately forced upon you.

Being an older JRPG, the game isn't a visual masterpiece, but the "semi-3D" character sprites, cut-in artwork, rare animated cutscenes, and common character sprites are all beautifully done. I espeically love the "gemstone" pupils that the character sprites possess that add a lot of charm.

I initially played this game for the story and didn't expect much from the gameplay. However, the combat and exploration are surprisingly deep and enjoyable. Learning orbal arts (magic) and using orbments to unlock high-tier arts is very satisfying. The out-of-combat mechanics like cooking, gearing up, and collecting are well-paced throughout the game's progression. The turn-based combat has a unique, predictable flow that's intuitive to manipulate to your advantage if you prepare adequately.

The English voiceovers are well-done, except perhaps for Tita. I've grown fond of each character's voice and look forward to hearing them in combat. The music is delightful, with memorable tunes from various locations and events that will have you humming along. The harmonica tune in certain scenes is particularly moving. There is a way to mod the Japanese voice overs though I played without them since I don't mind reading.

The game doesn't hold your hand but provides the tools needed to survive in combat. I only experienced a few game overs in my first playthrough during boss battles. I can't speak for NG+ gameplay since I haven't touched it yet.

A bit of farming in each new field zone is enough to avoid excessive grinding. Gathering money, sepith (for upgrading magic), and monster drops for cooking should suffice. I've never needed to repeatedly level up after a game over; any failure was due to poor combat decisions.

The main appeal of this game is its beautiful world. The primary story is compelling, with some expected tropes and genuine surprises. The side quests and content are nearly endless, with every NPC having their own personal story that progresses alongside yours. The world feels alive as NPCs react to the events centered around your protagonists.

This game is a masterpiece and a labor of love, this game is essentially a 40 hour prologue. As much as I personally sing this game's praises I know that having a slow burn of a story is not a positive for everyone but for me it enhances the experience especially during the peaks of this story, and the ending which I found very touching.

This is a game that I have tried to start multiple times, and I would play on hard mode and get near the end of the prologue and fizzle out. However, this time I went in with the mindset that I was truly going to finish this game and get caught up, or just not interact with it at all. So, I decided to 100% it, as I was either going to do it now or never.

What a good decision that was.

This was a fantastic game that has ample world building and a well executed plot that really earns a lot of it's jaw-dropping moments. The first few hours may seem slow compared to other games, but, what trails isn't afraid to do is live in the moment and expand on it's world. A lot of npc's change dialogue after different story events, and there is a ton of exploration and character to be had.

I 100% recommend this game! On the chance that you pick it up and don't know if it's for you, try to at least get to the end of chapter 2/ a little after the start of chapter 3 and if you don't like the game or plot by that point, there's not much I can do for you.

Also If the BP ranking system feels daunting, don't feel ashamed using a guide to get help with that, in fact, I recommend a guide specifically so you don't miss the in game books. Nearly every book you pick up can be read, there is even a novel series you can read in-game!

Overall, my playthrough took around 85-90 hours, going for a completionist run. If that seems too long, you could easily beat the game quicker if you don't mind not doing all the side content, however, there is a lot of nice content so I wouldn't really recommend it but if time is an issue you could shave 40-50 hours easily.

Give this game a try you won't regret it!

I really wanted to like this game but it felt like 60 hours of side quests; tedious side quests. Others have said that the game is a slow burn and picks up in chapter 2. I thought it was consistently boring. It's a real shame because I have no desire to try out any other Trails games.

Although a bit dated from a UI and graphics perspective, the story, characters, and gameplay was enjoyable enough for me to make it through the ~60 hours it took to finish the game.

Just started SC which picks up right where FC left off, and am looking forward to the continuation of the story.

Play this game, stop reading reviews, and just play if you have not already. This game has the best ending to any game I have played so far in my 35 years of gaming. I am only sad that it took me so long to actually give this series the time of day. I laughed, I cried, I swore during boss battles 10/10 ezpz

Fantastic game. Very much a slow-burn type of game which may rub off some people the wrong way (myself included) but I think it definitely does pay off once it kicks into high gear. Excellent storytelling, characters and the combat was a lot more fun that I expected. The music is also fantastic too, and the soundtrack is available on Spotify!

Absolutely love this game story. Please take your time because the game have alot of text and it is well worth reading through it without rushing. The time invested in getting to know the characters and environment is well worth. This game have a slow burn and I am looking forward in playing the next game in the series.

Awesome game, the story is interesting and it's a great start to an amazing bunch of games, I first played Trails of Cold Steel. So I am playing them out of order but nothing gets lost along the way, in fact it's kinda fun knowing small details that were mentioned in Cold Steel happening in real time to Estelle and Joshua. This series of games is probably one of my favourites despite me finding them pretty long after first released. A++ JRPG
