SteamVR

SteamVR

Cannot get SteamVR to boot on wayland, only boots on X11 with temp_v1.27.5
As per the title, I can't get steamVR to boot on wayland using any of the betas or stable, as it refuses to detect my headset and spits out a 496. On x11, I can get steamVR to connect to the headset, but room setup immediately crashes, and attempting to launch any proton VR titles causes steam to crash.

Looking online, 496 normally only shows up if there's a hardware issue. However, I've tested my index--its working fine. Plus the fact that I can at least get the headset to enter the game-swap environment indicates to me that it's a software issue, not a hardware issue. Anyone able to point me in the right direction?

Which compositor/desktop environment are you using? See: https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/18A4-1E10-8A94-3DDA for details.
KDE Plasma on x11 and wayland
ooops, I apparently didn't subscribe to this thread. Anyway, that should work. Have you tried it since the new KDE 6 release? I'm still hesitant regarding a switch to Wayland specifically because of VR.
If you can get a game running from VR Space:
Go into a game from vr space when the error occurs but the headset displays, exit out, it should pop you out into Home, and you should get error free start until you reboot. Thats how it works for me, at least. I dont know why it works that way but it does. Its happening to me right now, I opened VR smoothly before rebooting ten minutes ago, now I get the error and just havent felt like standing up to grab my Index from its ceiling mount to stop it by going through the process lol

That is what I did, specifically for VR. From what I understand, On Nvidia, KDE 5 Plasma Wayland is the only viable way to use VR.
X11 has this "dipping input lag" issue that, while bearable to some point, makes the gameplay process unbearable in the long run.
Is Cinnamon on Linux Mint usable now? It used to be.

Depends on how far this "used to be" is. If that was a year ago, then you might as well say it didn't.
