Diablo had very dark, Gothic and serious undertones while FATE's approach was more vibrant and whimsical that aimed to draw in more casual gamers while still maintaining the core gameplay that made Diablo so successful.

The FATE franchise is great but the early games suffer from bad camera angles in the dungeons, hard to see enemies and items in certain environments and worst of all, the really good items in the shops are extremely expensive and grinding for Gold early-mid game (Floor 1-15ish) can be really tough and when you gamble your money in hopes of getting a slight upgrade is a real b*itch and burns through gold like crazy and 9/10 results in useless gear that sells for very little. I understand that the merchant is a gamble and you're not meant to buy and buy and buy tons of items all the time but it's frustrating nonetheless. The only real effective way to make consistent money is to fish, and I mean fish a lot, and send your pet back to town over and over to sell everything for you. I wish that enemies dropped better quality loot later on (it happens but not often) or at least the resell value of items was higher in order to grind a lot of gold to be able to gamble more regularly to round out late game builds. Of course, none of this is necessary or required to complete the game by any means, but it's just one of those things that always bothered me about FATE, Torchlight and games with similar gambler merchants.

FATE games are really great. They are classics. The originals run perfectly fine on modern PCs and they recently remastered all 4 original games into a single bundle which in theory is great to introduce it to a new audience, but has a mixed reception.

Highly recommend picking up the originals just in case they pull them and force everyone to purchase the Reawakened bundle they claim is the "best way" to play them like many other franchises have done and then you're left playing potentially inferior versions of games that were perfectly fine they originally were.

Just like the demo I played years ago, except I can finally beat the game, Works great on steam deck. just use my custom mapping or add camera controls yourself, or just use the magnifying glass icon, it labels all items so you won't miss quest items like I did. Only need to pull up the keyboard to name yourself and your pet at the very start of a game.
