[Community] Guides
:tropicoflag: Greetings Tropicans! :tropicoflag:

Since a lot of new players have joined the ranks of El Presidente and sometimes needing additional help, than just the advices by Penultimo, I thought it is the right time to start collecting all guides created by the players.
So this should be the place to be now and I want to start with an awesome and dedicated reddit-user named ostropolos.

  • First it started with a written guide, which should help new players, getting started and making this started even more easy in addition to the tutorial for the real basics:
    https://www.reddit.com/r/tropico/comments/3xj3w7/how_to_go_through_the_colonial_era_like_a_baws/

But that's not all ostropolos has to offer:
4 twitch-livestreams already took place, each was just about one specific era and some tips, tricks and hints all about each respective era.
So just have a look into this as well:

Missing your awesome guide here?
No problem just poke me anytime e.g. by creating a thread in this hub, or by heading over to our official boards here: forum.kalypsomedia.com . Just include your name, YT-channel, Twitch-channel, whatever and I would be happy to update this thread accordingly.

Keep it up, have fun and enjoy everybody! :rulez:

Is there any way to play a challenge we create without uploading it to Steam and then subscribing to it?

It really doesn't look like it. You can play through the Mission Editor but it doesn't let you save a game in progress or use an existing dynasty. So you really can't test out a decently long mission unless you can test it in one go. You also can't play missions you created yourself if you want to be able to use features like saving your game.

It's a really really weird decision on their part. It makes the challenge editor far less useful and means you have to publish a mission to be able to play it. That's probably why there's very few so far and why some of them say things like "test."

Edit: You can upload them then immediately set them to "hidden" once it brings up the workshop page for the map. If you do this then at least you won't have to worry about uploading something intended for your use publicly - but you do have to upload it. It's a really weird and clumsy way to have to do things to just play around in your own maps though. I appreciate the mission editor but this is an odd choice.

And here I thought it was simply a bug in their system. I mean seriously, I don't want to upload every one that I create to Steam when I feel they're not ready for public use and only want to fool around with them myself.

At least I had hoped it was only a bug. But I'm guessing not.

How can we tag our steam workshop items?

So I noticed that a whoel lot of terrain types are missing from the map editor, and we can't place mountains, rocks or other terrain features. Please tell me this is just a mistake, and not intentional.

As it stands, the mission editor is severely lackign to make it a useful tool.

Once in the editor and starting conditions info is set ex. name, description, and pic. You should just be able to hit the cloud with the up arrow on it.

Can we get an update that allows us to play the scenarios with our sandbox and campain Dynasty. I get really hampered without my level 5 dynasty which took about 20 completted sandbox games to get.
Skybreaker 17 Mar, 2016 @ 1:08am
Hello Kirron 999.
I am not quite sure what you mean with scenarios, you cannot play with your dynasty.
All gamemodes can be played with your dynasty, means campaign, missions, sandbox and workshop missions.
-cheers
